Author Topic: Biggest Sandbox Games?  (Read 5941 times)

KSP is sandbox.

well technically its a sandbox. but i think the op was wanting a huge game. not 20 minutes of gameplay.
ksp is a sandbox in the sense of building a rocket, there is nothing open world about it.

GW Nightfall really didn't feel that big when I went exploring it.

I think Burnout Paradise is really overrated in terms of that map size.

all these open world action or rpg games isnt what i would consider sandbox...

in fact i havnt seen a single sandbox game even mentioned in this topic yet. besides blockland.
but having stuffloads of space isnt necessary, it dosnt really make it better.
JC2 is a sandbox game. Look at the wiki.

"Star War Galaxies launched with ten planets and each of those ten planets was approximately 200 sq mi in area. Later on two more planets were added via two expansion packs, which made the game even larger. In addition to the planets, there were also a total of twelve spaces which were equal to 3400 cubic meters each.

swg is not a sandbox game...

you really dont know what a sandbox is do you. open world and open ended =/= sandbox.

you can only go so far before crashing / bugging everything out to a standstill
we don't talk about the farlands here, stranger

A single Minecraft world is 7 times larger than the earth's surface.

FUEL is a prime example of this
the map was HUGE but 90% of the objects and terrain looked the same so it got boring fast

yeah the elder scroll games get smaller and small by travel size, every game.
but this is perhaps because daggerfall is hours and hours of USELESS repetitive views and nothing going on.

people want to experience and interact, not see trees and rocks for 90% of the game.

The game itself has no limit. What happens is the game will eventually fill up all available memory and the comp will crash.

It is. Thats just how far you can get before the game crashes.
