Author Topic: Real-Time Strategy Gamemode in development! Most Recent Release: 5/18  (Read 10460 times)

It is long overdue but here is the first alpha build of Gamemode_RTS

http://host-a.net/u/Ladios/GameMode_RTS.zip
Please read the Readme so you know how to use this gamemode!
Let me know what you think! This is unfinished so it doesnt really have the alien stuff yet, just the basics of the RTS system (which is easily expandable btw, if you know how try coding a small custom mappack and see how fun it could be :D)

Edit: Release two fixed 3 little problems
Just a minor release the next major thing i need to fix is troop ordering cause its not even close to what I want right now

Ok so I have not had much time over the past few months to really work on any of the projects I have been meaning to. Now with the upcoming holiday season and moving shortly thereafter I have even less time but I am getting more anxious about not doing the things I like. Not to mention greenlight is on it's way and I would like this mod to be available as soon as possible for any new players.
One of them is making this add-On: Invasion.

This topic is to detail what has already been accomplished and what will be planned. This first post itself will change as I complete more assets to make it look nicer.

There is a significant lack of original game modes in this game. There are many variations of DMs and just recently we got a racing mode, but so much can be done on a game as open as Blockland. A significant void is the Strategy genre, and while there are the loosely moderated MiniEmpires, a full-fledged strategy add-on is definitely needed.

The Invasion game mode would feature a departure from the traditional control scheme, loosing the first person perspective to instead allow for issuing commands to multiple bots from above. You order your troops to build, battle, and collect resources until the end result of defeating the enemies base is complete. The game would allow for even more alternative objectives as well, though the inital focus would be on the basic 1v1 alien invasion set up.

Background:
(With holiday hours, I have no time to write a big fancy thing just yet, also note the lack of pictures)
The aliens initially caught the humans off gaurd with their inital attack, but having fought them off humanity is offered a short time to prepare for the real invasion. When the aliens touch down, the army is already ready and the battle begins.

Battlefield:
On one side of the map the aliens touch down, their dropships loading off troops and supplies, on the other, the army has already set up camp and is organizing and moving in its troops. Each side beings to build more structures to produce and operate more powerful units and vehicles. Each team gathers resources that unlock more units and abilities, and each team tries to destroy the enemy base.

Again as I have more time I will write more. There are plans for currently 12 types of units, 8 buildings, but this may change as things develop.

So if i read correctly, this is basically a 1 vs 1 strategy game in Blockland?

Would be interesting if you did something more similar to Nuclear Dawn or Natural Selection 2, with a commander who can give orders and build structures while the rest of the team are his troops.
I like such an idea more then just a 1 vs 1 thing.
Correct me if i am wrong and it might be useful to start with a 1 vs 1 thing anyway, because from there you can always see what could be done, but still.
Hope this post is of any use.

The 1 v 1 thing is a base. I plan on expanding upon it, the end goal being a 3 v 3 squad command mode thing with each squad leader building things and controlling the ai units. There is potential to sprinkle real players throughout the game as well but that is going to wait a bit.

Once the general RTS engine bit is built one could easily make a tower MOBA game similar to LOL and DOTA as well which I hope to do if I have time after this first project but as I have so many irons in the fire that is merely a distant forethought.

Excellent. I've been hoping somebody would do this.

I see.
The 3 v 3 squad command thing sounds more interesting as a goal then a MOBA type of game, but i'll be interested in whatever way you decide to go with this.
Definitely keeping an eye on this.

I was just thinking about something like this the other day.

Good luck. Its been attempted a couple times but so far I have yet to see any working beta videotaped.

There isn't much to show in terms of progress but I do hope to have a better organized/looking topic tonight after I get off work. Maybe with some screen grabs of stuff already done if I have time.

yessssssssssssssssssss

Quick concept art so you guys can get an idea of how I hope these guys will look.
If any modelers are looking for a fun challenge, I would appreciate support as that would allow me to focus my attentions elsewhere.
Ill also throw up the concepts for a few other things later.

I'm going to create this using events, and variables. Wish me luck.

FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUU--
My power just went out when I got to the last stage of my sketch of the alien tank thing. I will try to get it posted later but I forgot when I last saved so I don't know how much I lost.

Here we go:

The alien main battle "tank" consists of a hoverbike apparatus with an attached uniwheeled plasma cannon thing.
I have to go to work but tonight if I am not too tired I will try to bust out a couple more drawings.

This sounds very fun.

Also reminds me of Command and Conquer.

So the aliens didn't just show up here. They came looking for a rare material that they then must use to build their technology. With their arrival we humans also have learned to harness this ore for our own purposes.

The problem is I can't figure out what to name it.
My current working name is Uberdium, but I would love any suggestions that don't sound like something out a James Cameron movie.
