Author Topic: Blockland Aces: The Cartelian War [On Base]  (Read 75612 times)

I drop a bomb on the deck of the last retreating Nerverak destroyer, blowing the bridge and the rest of the conning tower to shreds. I fire the last of my rounds into the ammunition store, detonating it and sending the ship under. Lifeboats are visible after a few moments, some packed, some nearly empty. Some are picked up by Cartelian Special Forces, and others are forced to row to shore.
I turn my attention to a squadron of bombers. I fire my two remaining missiles at two bombers. Both go down.
"Wooo! Splash two targets! Heading back to base for refuel and rearm."

I slave a HARM seeker onto a radiation source some twenty miles out at sea, and squeeze one off. "Magnum." I watch as the timer on my HUD counts down to impact. The missile arcs toward a ship far off into the distance and satisfyingly explodes on target, taking down whatever electronic warfare equipment it was carrying. I could see the results almost immediately on the other MFD as columns of false BVR radar contacts disappear. I direct my attention back to the city and contact AWACS for information.

"Blackwater, Swordsman, picture."
"Swordsman, Blackwater, new picture: Threat egressing southbound bearing 1-7-8, 30 miles, 8,000. At this time central control has issued a directive to all airmen authorizing RTB. Contact local support for IFR navigation on hotel fox channel 166.8."

Well, that's that. Without further ado I fly through the pattern, land at base, and go through the debriefing before finally returning to the barracks and lying down on my bunk.

~don't worry, the mission's not over yet~
;)

I land and am informed of the new orders. I send my plane in for repairs, head to the barracks, and fall asleep.

It seems the invasion is over...

Suddenly, a big boom is heard. A huge bomb goes off in the town hall. An elite ace squadron move to take over Etral. More sirens are heard in the base.

I snap awake.
"stuff, what the hell was that?"

As I was still in the air, I saw a big boom and a mushroom cloud. The right side of my aircraft is instantly torn out and I start falling, falling, falling, until I see the ground. It meets me and I black out, still alive.

I hear the explosion, but at first confuse it with a sonic boom. Sirens howl all over the base.

My new-ish Falcon is sitting the in the hanger next to the trashed one. It has been unloaded. Pete is staring at his data pad.

"Anti-air package!" He yells, "Four AMRAAMs, two Sidewinders, cannon, ECM pod, no tanks, half fuel!"

I climb into my aircraft.

"It'll take about three minutes!" He yells at me.

Blackwater gives me a briefing.

"An explosive device of some type has detonated in Etral. There are only about 12 contacts on radar at this time, we are trying to get a low-frequency radar image to check for the presence of stealth aircraft."

He corrects himself.

"All 86th callsigns, attack appears nuclear, attempting to get a radiation check,"

I turn to look at Pete.

"Hey, Pete, what are the stats on this thing's CBRN seals!?"

He looks at his data pad.

"Last checks said they were functioning normally!"

I run to my aircraft, take about three minutes to check all systems, get armed for AA combat, taxi, get permission to take off, and gun the afterburners. A mushroom cloud is visible over Etral.
"Blackwater, don't tell me that's a nuclear weapon."
"We don't know, we're performing a radiation check now."
"Wait, where's Frank? Did he get shot down? His signature isn't showing up on radar. Blackwater, check his tracker."

"Ya know what, forget that! Give him full fuel, and tanks!"

"What?!" I exclaim.

"If that's a nuclear attack, then this base might have to be abandoned due to our proximity to Etral! You'd need to be able to get out of here!"

"stuff, stuff, stuff, stuff. SOMEONE loving FIND ESTALOO. BLACKWATER, WHERE IS HE?!"
I turn my plane around and land back at base.
"Tempest, what the hell's going on?"

"Wait, where's Lieutenant Colonel Estaloo? Did he get shot down? His signature isn't showing up on radar."

As I wake up, I hear enemy troops moving in. I decide to get my survival kit and light a flare somewhere. An enemy scout spots me and I dispatch him with my Glock 18 on the plane before he warns his squad. I take the scout's G36C and walk to a city block where it's open. The scout's squad finds me and I get into a firefight. After taking down two men with my shaky aim, I get a bullet to the shoulder. The pain is searing, but I keep fighting and eventually I kill all the squad members. I then open up my survival kit, and take out basic medical supplies, and patch myself up. I then try the flare out... it does not work. I try and get it working again.

(OOC: The bomb is not nuclear) (not yet)

My plane is disarmed and loaded with full fuel and maximum external fuel tanks.
"We're going to need to evacuate if that thing's nuclear because of our proximity to Etral."

"Blackwater here. We have confirmed that the weapon is non-nuclear. We have not located Estaloo at this time. Stay at base and await further instructions."
"Why wait? What if they have another and are headed out our way? What then?"

It finally takes around five minutes, but I fix the flare. It works perfectly, sending up a bunch of red smoke. I decide to try and find a shiny mirror that I can use to help. With a bullet in my shoulder, waving my arms will be painful. I wait for SAR helicopters.

"I don't know Steele, I'm still on the gro-"

"Blackwater to all 86th callsigns, radiological tests negative. Twelve radar contacts still in the air, still awaiting the low-frequency radar picture at this time."

"Nevermind, its not nuclear! Take the tanks off and stop filling it with fuel!"

Pete complies. The tower gives me a taxi route and I join the elephant walk to the runway.

"Estaloo, this is Blackwater, SAR helos dispatched to your location. ETA 20 minutes."
