Author Topic: What hosting service is going to be used now?  (Read 3589 times)

agreed, you get customer service much quicker
Come on in, you're paying $0 a month for premium New York server space, that does entitle you to 24/7 support too. Support comes when we're not available, if I'm asleep or in a meeting all day, forget it, I can run to the computer.

how much is CBM and who does it

I have a hosting service called brown townHosts. It's server runs a Pentium 3 processor, no GPU, and 128kb of RAM. It's storage space is a 50MB floppy disk. It'll start at around $30/month with a $100 setup fee.

CBM is free. Cowboy6 and Mango run it. I've been using it almost two years.

I dunno if I really trust something that is free.
I will need 2 servers up, and do not like resets and lag and all that crap.
somdthing free just tells me bandwidth isn't regulated and resources would be over"sold"

It's 100% trusted. Cowboy6 is the most mature and professional guy you'll meet.
The CBM servers rarely reset compared to RTB's unreliable, constant resets.

Regarding bandwidth and resources:
I like to keep a good sized reserve available for when the servers hit peak times. Currently it's running about 55% of the total capabilities with 18 servers and few players on the servers, but when I hosted that crazy Steam party server with 99 players the day Blockland came out on Steam, plus about 45 other players spread out on other servers, I was at about 85-90% with 18 servers running. So I'd say 20 total is about right for the node we have now, and that takes care of any big player counts we may have.

Hopefully I still have my slot for CBM.

The service seriously needs a way to talk to the console through the client and see what people are doing.

Living in Australia makes it difficult to host a good server, especially since most of Blockland's audience are American...

Make CBM a paid service.
Boom, problem solved.

Last time CBM tried to be a paid service they only had 2 clients. That was before RTB was even around.

I think the situation is quite different.

I think the situation is quite different.
Not really
Before:
- No RTB
- Kaphost wasn't even on the rise yet.
- Only costed $5 a month
- Two clients

Now:
- No RTB
- Kaphost nonexistant
- Free
- Twenty clients

CBM is going to stay free unless the demand becomes so high that Cowboy sees potential profit.

Another option is that Cowboy and Mango could get that remote console working and create a topic on their service with pricing. I doubt it though. Those kinds of topics always lead to drama eventually.

its not about being popular guys...

yeah free stuff will get more people. that dosnt make it good in any way.
