Author Topic: Running the mile tomorrow, give me some efficient tips so I don't kill myself.  (Read 3863 times)

When I had to ran the mile (like 5 years ago, jesus it's been a long time) the most effective strategy for me was to sprint the first lap or two (if I could) and then jog the rest. I found that regardless of whether or not I sprinted the first lap I'd take the remaining laps at about the same speed, so sprinting the first lap cut out all that extra time I spent on the first lap. Also, instead of pushing myself the whole time, I only pushed myself during the first lap so by the time I got to the third or fourth I felt somewhat replenished and could speed it up again.

Run at the same pace all the way through, you might fall behind a bit at the start, but if anyone is running to fast they will fall behind you eventually.

Stand up straight.

Don't drink/eat directly, wait until after to get a good drink.

Small sips of water

It's mainly a psychological thing. Approach it confidentially and you'll do great.

Main thing is breathing. It's all about breathing, make sure you keep it steady and natural, if you pull a stitch it's gonna be rough.

A mile is good but my sister is doing better.

Just saying... Also, get a full bottle of water so you don't stop when 2% through.

You didn't even spell it right
Better than the spelling of granola bar lol

What time of day?  If it's later, eat a huge breakfast and a small lunch.

I run 3 miles everyday at track practice.

Running the mile isn't hard.  Just remember to keep running, because there will always be air in your lungs.  You'll never, "run out of breath."

Also, don't bring food.  And don't drink too much water.  You'll feel it bouncing around in your stomach when you run.  I run a mile every week, it's not hard.

drink a bottle of water before the run and blow your nose
also try to keep up with your friends that are also doing it seriously too

Just a mile?
this is what every kid in my class said before getting 8 and a half minutes on the track lol

as long as you actually run you'll pass half of the class who walk because they're afraid of showing how fast they actually are

Drink water, and bring a gronala bar. That helps.

lol i remember the mile in 8th grade was awful and i thought i'd never run again because i was just generally out of shape (came off 3 months of being in a to-the-knee boot because of a stress fracture and the mile was about a week later).. nowadays i try to run a mile as often as possible, i'm down to about 5:35

i used to run about 3 times a week and my best time was ~7-8 minutes (i wasnt actually timing myself, i just checked the clock when i went out and came in)
