Author Topic: nintendo will not allow gamers to be gay in next game  (Read 4273 times)

actually legality is relevant. marijuana use in video games in places where it is illegal has been subject to debate and in numerous countries certain things (not specifically marijuana) have been restricted in games due to the political restrictions of the country. it does matter what's legal and what's not.

well clearly gay marriage is slated to become fully legal. also the developers live in JAPAN and they're not responsible for localization so they wouldn't take the US into consideration at all. googling it now I see gay marriage isn't legal in japan, so that could explain their choice (it could also be a japanese cultural thing). i don't really blame nintendo for what they've done, but i just wish that games would include the option for same-love relationships in the future.

the real question is why are people taking this game seriously
if i remember correctly in this game giant heads come out of the sea, people have satanic rituals around the virtual boy and there are korean drama conflicts between zelda, link and reggie
why the forget are gay people taking the fact that there isnt a feature created just for them in a game that is probably one of the most random games nintendo has ever made so loving seriously

and this

They're not making a statement. They're going by the cultural norms. If this was made 10 years in the future where I'm sure gay rights are much more expansive, I can understand. But right now, it's perfectly acceptable to not include gay marriage. They're not purposefully trying to state that only straight marriage is right, they're just implementing marriage as it is right now.

The friends can just... wait for it... not play the game, Stop throwing a bitch fit and just go stick a carrot un their butt or something..

you make it sound like entitlement.  im pretty sure the change would be ONE line of code to make it possible. i don't think nintendo should bother trying to change the game now but i hope they include the feature in the future. whether the game is super crazy or random is irrelevant.

??? gay people != genderqueer
nice generalizations there

It's not really about "wahh i wanna marry my boyfriend's mii". it's about the principle.
also friend is a slur

while i do understand that it probably isnt that hard to add gay marriage to the game, i don't think you need to have that in a game as random as that one, it seems to me that these people want to be in every game that has marriage options, even the ones that dont take it seriously
to me the people complaining about this are people who cant do anything but to throw stuff at someone who doesnt make a specific gameplay element just for them, the game is targeted for the most part of the community and if they dont add the minority into their thoughts then they must be horrible homophobic monsters, amirite?

the developers purposefully withheld the option to have gay relationships.
How do you know this? It probably never crossed their minds. Japan isn't as "politically correct" as America.

just by the nature of computer science. they would have had to introduce code that would only allow male and female miis to marry one another. a developer had to consciously add that limitation. edit for your edit: well it IS NOA's job to localize the game. it would have been a very simple revision.

i'm not saying the developers withheld it out of family values or whatever. but logistically they withheld that option on purpose. they were probably just trying to avoid political controversy.

I think I read somewhere that you can't choose what Mii you marry anyway.

This is really stupid. Oh my god, a company is catering to like 95% of the population as opposed to like 3%! How terrible! Like, seriously?
actually about 10% of the world is gay/bi/whatever

how the forget is mario gay
they're brothers
they help each other
what the forget
