Author Topic: nintendo will not allow gamers to be gay in next game  (Read 4290 times)

theoretical minorities which may or may not be part of their current audience
homoloveuality is not theoretical. their audience is huge.

I'm not saying they necessarily need to include it, but the cause of complaint is not bogus. Whether you like it or not, homoloveuality is rapidly becoming more widely socially accepted. Be prepared to have this conversation again.

Im more concerned about gay couples being allowed to get married in real life than I'm concerned about getting married in a virtual game.
A life simulation game which includes marriage but excludes same-love marriage is an implicit statement. It's a small part of a larger conversation.

the only problem with them adding this would be other people would want their special relationship types and itll go on until you can marry a chair or something
This is a slippery slope. Can a chair sign a contract?

what are you on

If it is not a problem, why won't they just add the option?

You are honestly mildly "offending" more people keeping the option to straight-only, but really, it is only a loving game. Don't buy it if you don't want to fool around and be married to a girl in a game.

Even in this day and age they'd be offending more people by allowing same-love marriages in a game aimed at a younger audience.

Theoretical minorities as in minorities which may or may not exist within your immediate vicinity or target audience, not minorities which may or may not exist at all.

Teneski, they're not making a statement by not including it. They're just going with what society is currently like, and that's that gay marriage isn't a thing.

its irrelevant. People rather waste their time crying over a video game than they would supporting real issues like getting gay marriage legalized in the 33 states that currently ban it.

So what happens if you get gay marriage in the game? Yay such a landslide victory for gay rights. Meanwhile couples are being assaulted and harassed for their loveual oritentation but thank god you can get married in a video game.

this x100

there is no safe in between

which is why dev teams should just do whatever they want and not care about the polar opinion
best policy is to never bring it up and never take a stance on it.

Can you reasonably say that Nintendo's audience might not include homoloveuals who would be interested in marrying each other's Mii?

Including or excluding it is an implied stance.

You're still failing to notice that you're quoting from a statement which was directed at society in general, not Nintendo's present situation regarding this issue.

Thats like saying Nintendo hates anyone who isnt white because Animal Crossing doesnt have a race option

Uh, no. Society is currently changing towards gay marriage if they are:
1) Not religiously biased.
2) A first world country.

I'm sorry, I thought we were talking about the topic of this thread, rather than making broad unrelated statements.

It's not a hateful or strong statement, but whatever choice they make, it is a choice, which sends a message. There's no getting around that.

Not there yet, but changing. Society has still yet to fully accept gay marriage. I personally think that gay marriage should totally be a thing, but that's simply not what society is like, but rather what it is soon to be.

Both Japan and the US are yet to legalize gay marriage in the majority of regions, which is where Nintendo and NoA are situated.
