I'm sort of trying to beat this game as fast as I can because I can't take more of it. Only my Magmortar is on the same level as the trainer pokemon, who all seem to have their fair share of annoying moves that inflict all sorts of debuffs on you. And even then, pokemon who are about 10 levels lower than me can still end me in one hit.
Yeah, they gave just about every pokemon a insanely annoying status inflicting move or made it strong against the pokemon you just caught from the last area
for example the place made me go through a area filled with grass/bug type pokemon and then immediately threw a cave filled with rock pokemon at me.
the only way I could get through there was by catching a Mankey, the only pokemon that you could get except for picking Horsea as your starter that can actually deal good damage against anything in there.
And about that, holy stuff this game went overboard with the trainers. If you don't believe me, wait until you get to Mt. Press. I played through nearly the entire thing last night and I had literal nightmares that night about Pokemon trainers approaching me, and after a while they just piled up on me causing me to suffocate and I woke up all sweaty.

That's the problem with this game. The difficulty is certainly there, and I don't mind difficulty at all. The problem is that it's not fun, just frustrating. You walk through a route and as you get further into the game, you will find yourself having to heal half of your team after every trainer battle. The road to the town next to Mt. Press is horrifyingly long and if all of your pokemon die (which is very likely to happen), you go aaaall the way back.
Yeah literally every trainer battle or two I have to go back and heal or risk my pokemon at low health
I feel like the creator tried to make the game more difficult but didn't know the difference between fun difficult and really annoying difficult
Surely, it's easier to get back to where you were because at least the trainers won't approach you anymore, but it's still annoying having to wade through an endless horde of trainers the first time. Most of the trainers in locations where you already have your hands full with the wild pokemon are ones you can't dodge.
in the real games, the problem I had with going back to places was going through caves because every time I go in one about 60 Geodudes attack me
whereas in this game its the trainers that pose more of a threat than anything.
which really would sound like they should but they shouldn't because unlike in wild battles, they have multiple pokemon they can pull out to attack you with.
And seeing how wild pokemon are way lower leveled than the trainer pokemon, this is a difficulty spike that appears very frequently. This, combined with the fact that there are so many trainers with whom you can't avoid confrontation, can end your journey in mere minutes.
Honestly the game wouldn't be as much of a struggle if the wild pokemon were scaled better, cause then I could farm a few levels so I can atleast take out a few trainers with my first pokemon before it gets to low hp.
And I still think the music is gay as stuff. The person who composed the music for the game obviously has never played a pokemon game in his/her entire life.
Fortunately you can change around the music if you go into the audio files and replace the midi with another midi song of your choice.
