You can either download the core again or go through the process of patching it manually. Your save files aren't affected

Speaking of patches, why did they have to make patching such an annoying process

They could've just put all the files in the appropriate directory and let us merge all the folders at once with a single action, but instead they decided to name all the folders "Copy to ______:_______" so we have to do each one separately

Every little annoyance that stacks up (including all those things Yosher mentioned) is making me want to play less and less

I am not having problems with trainer battles. However, my strategy in this game has been that of a Pokemon collector so far. This means that I try and catch every Pokemon possible in an area before I advance, usually by the time I encounter and catch them all, I kill enough wild Pokemon that my party Pokemon are at a good level.

EDIT: I had one problem early on when battling trainers with Ponyta but that was because I got a little speedy and didn't catch 'em all first.

I am on my way and preparing for the fifth gym now, which I was initially worried about because I didn't have any Pokemon that would be super effective to all of the gym leader's Pokemon, but then I realized that I had caught a really good candidate from my secret base (Cocigaretterigus).  This happens to also be my highest level Pokemon and I had a Pidgeotto in my party just waiting to be replaced. Unfortunately, it doesn't know the moves I want it to know so I am starting with a Yamask (the evolution prior), which happens to also be 10 levels below it. Even more unfortunate is that Cocigaretterigus has a really low speed stat and ghost Pokemon happen to be weak to themselves, aka my Cocigaretterigus will probably have to be a couple levels higher than the gym leader to beat more than one of his Pokemon. This will probably end up being the most difficult gym yet.

This will probably end up being the most difficult gym yet.

It will. The fifth gym is terrible.

Nevermind, there is a free Absol in the town with the fifth gym leader. Absol learns dark-type moves and also  is resistant to dark and ghost attacks. This will be easy.

EDIT: You also get HM Fly from the rangers here.

EDIT EDIT: And you find the TM for shadow ball....

WHAT

WHAT
Yeah I was talking to all of them, because I always talk to everybody. One of them was like, "Are you a Pokemon ranger?" Even though I wasn't I said yes and they gave me fly.

I honestly find it dumb that they hid really useful things like HMs like that
Like I would understand doing it with TMs and other item but seriously you should be given the HMs just by doing the actual storyline part of the game

Joining the rangers is a storyline part of the game. In the quest to join the rangers you have to fight team Asgard and stuff.

Also, what makes the fifth gym even more easy is that I just got my secret base to level 2, which fills it with Midreavus, perfect ghost Pokemon for my Absol to battle. There is also a Gastly upgrade that fills it with Gastly.

I've lost all patience with this game, got to the top of the hell that is Mt. Press, only to have to fight Zeus, who took a sudden 6-7 level jump from the last battle that was about 2 minutes before, his Ninjask, Eelektross, and Metagross I can take with ease, then he has a Mega Gengar and
(Shaymin), both with amazing type coverage, and tanky as all stuff.  Haven't even seen his sixth pokemon.  What pisses me off the most is that according to my friend, he has one less Pokemon in Zeta and doesn't have a mega at all.

Oh I didn't know that
but still it should be directly given to you by a gym leader or something instead.

Told you.
Never doubted it, at least they were fairly easy to deal with.  It's the boss at the end of this that I still cant get because the Mega Gengar or Shaymin will sweep my whole team.
