Wow I never knew how much fun realistic planes battles can be

Taking off in simulator battles is impossible, it's also really satisfying when you knock down or even hit a plane in historical

Its not really hard at all unless someone is camping around your airfield/you have a paper plane

Wait are you talking about at the beginning of the game or in the middle?

Sometimes starfishs will follow you all the way back to your airfield and it's really forgetin annoying since they'll probably just get shot down by AAA anyways lol.

But the only plane I've ever had trouble taking off in general is the P-38. I have no idea why I can't I just pull back too much or it's just too responsive and I always slam the entire tail section into the ground and flip and crash.

Too bad you can't fire your tank's machine guns, that way I wouldn't need to waste an entire shell to fire into a tank's viewport sometimes.

hello i have just recently gotten war thunder
i die a lot

anyways at what point will i be able to use a tank

Should be able to use them right now, go into the research tree and click the tab at the top that sounds like it's not planes but tanks. Note that tanks are only available for Germany and Russia at the moment.

Was that even functionally and practically possible in actual tank warfare?

Probably. Shooting the commander when he's popped out of the hatch seems plausible.

Well yeah, that makes sense since he's an exposed target, but shooting directly through the drivers viewport with a coaxial or hull-mounted MG seems extraordinarily difficult to me. Weren't the MG's on tanks mostly used against infantry, soft targets, for marking targets and ranging targets?

Yeah, especially since the coax gunner probably didn't have that much of a view anyways. And I don't know much about the point of MGs on tanks but I assume they're used to eliminate infantry with tank-destroying weapons.

I think they could be used (and were, sometimes) for ranging a target if you knew the effective ranging difference between the main cannon and the coax and for marking specific targets for focus fire or providing illumination in low-light situations.

I'm sure that they had some purpose that was not the intended purpose but proved useful in actual combat, I just can't remember what it was.

According to wikipedia:

so you were right about the ranging thing sorta

I hate it when someone is shooting me from behind, and I can't shoot back because the gunner takes a million loving years to reload, and my pilot gets shot. From behind the bomber. Also, all of the sudden I'm being put in matches where I can't shoot down stuff because everyone has better planes than I do. Plus it's domination almost every single damn time.

like taking off, apparently you need to keep pressing a and d making corrections to take off else it spins out of control

Ah, I use a joystick. I wouldn't know your troubles. :P
