your ship(s) move in, it looks like a giant ball made out of steel. a hatch is visible.

Send in one of those bomb squad bots (realistically this could be on the ship because it could be a bomb) to pull open the hatch.

The hatch opens revealing a corridor that looks like it was built for space. All visible consoles and electronics appear to have been taken apart and destroyed. Wires are visible and hanging, having been sheared or rendered useless.
