this month, the berlin conference of 1880 took place
in it, the great nations of europe agreed on several things:
- prohibition on slave trade
- free trade within the confines of africa
- the colonization of africa is now totally ok because everyone already living there is an uncivilized brute
the scramble for africa has begun
ethiopia, nejd, and madagascar have special westernization processes that are only available now (although religious conversion is still a slim possibility)
all must defend its homeland from the european aggressors and do all of the following:
- defeat a european power in combat
- reclaim all territory lost by the end of the scramble
because the sokoto caliphate and morocco are protected under germany and france, respectively, they may only westernize through the vanilla religious conversion/culture renunciation shindig
