well maybe he wants to host it from home???
He would have much better results using Ubuntu server which he was already using, but he instead switched to Crunchbang for some reason.

there is nothing wrong with what he's doing
he's hosting a webserver from home thats going to receive little to no traffic
its not going to effect anything on his network or the computer
you're saying there's issues with what he's doing but there really arent
the only "issue" is that you don't like what he's doing because you think you're some all knowing linux god or something
get off your high horse and forget off

Okay, what? Why would I not like what he's doing? I am just saying that he will have significant issues with what he is doing currently. I know this from experience. Hosting things from laptops is a generally bad idea especially if you are using an operating system that was never even intended to host any kind of server. Since the website won't be getting much traffic, he could probably pull it off, but not with his choice of OS.

And it's funny how you completely ignored what I said in my last post and instead claimed that I just don't like it when people host servers from home.

He will have issues. Just because it doesn't happen immediately doesn't mean it won't. He said it himself, he hasn't even set it up yet.

The first and most likely possibility is that it will be really slow due to the hardware he is using for this combined with the desktop OS he is using.
The next possible problem will be that it needs to be on 24/7 if it is going to be a server. Laptops classically don't do well being turned on for long periods of time.
Another possible problem is that he might want to use this computer for normal daily use while it is hosting. This one isn't likely, but in the case that it happens, running a webserver will take a large chunk of his system's resources and make it slow while he is using it.

You have absolutely no part in what he does. No matter what you say, he will do what he wants to do. Your input is not wanted or needed on this subject.

If he finds that what he's doing isn't working then he'll change. But as for now, what he has is working. Until it stops doing what he requires it to do, he will keep what works. What he does affects you in no way possible. I don't believe he's running this webserver for serious use or else he'd probably put more resources into getting a desktop or something more suitable for servers. He said he doesn't use the laptop, so there's no chance of him wanting to.

So in the end it just doesn't matter. Let him do what he wants, and stop caring. You have no reason to.

In all seriousness though, what do you run on your main computer? I can suggest some things that are really fun to use if that's what you're looking for.
