Author Topic: I 'came out' as an atheist.  (Read 25288 times)

this is why you don't make a religion thread on blf
You mean don't make a Government Surveillance/NSA, Anti/Pro-Abortion Thread, LGBT rights, GMOs, Gun-Control, Pro-Left/Pro-Right, Immigration, Valve vs EA, feminism, tumblr, threads.

secular doesn't mean "intelligent", it just means "out of religion"

He said that he can be religious and out of religion at the same time.

That's some wheelchair quantum physics.
I meant it more as a "you can be religious or NOT be religious"
hence why it was in parenthesis. Sorry if that wasn't clear

yeah exactly

*if you don't want drama

I am cool with discussing said issues, every one else is a wet blanket. "Muh feelings, too controversial! ITS A HOT TOPIC! GUYS STOP FIGHTING PLZ! AHH stuff STORM IMPEDING!" Like no stuff, it's a debate. Hell most of my posts come from said topics because I like debating in them.

1.Leave it before it gets aggressive, this was mentioned on page 1.
Honestly just lock the thread OP
Oh god OP is 11 and has made his religious decision.
People don't learn that religious topics cause stuffstorms here. Never.

If you don't want to see the contents of the thread, then leave the thread. It's that simple.

lol forget off he did nothing wrong

Just some think food for the debate about old testament a few pages back

http://www.gotquestions.org/abolish-fulfill-law.html

I always saw Heaven and Earth passing as the establishment of a new covenant which had been promised since Genesis, and that everything being accomplished applied to Jesus's first time on Earth. Keep in mind that the prophecies of the Messiah count as Law since they are preached by the prophets.
Honestly the only forget I give about christians saying the old testament doesn't matter anymore is that many of Christians still continue to cite OT law in statements about things such as homoloveuality and others. It's there for them when they do like it, but as soon as they don't like it, "Oh, the Old Testament doesn't apply any more" It's just another example of cherry picking

I just take the idea that a God created the universe.
I might be placing more emphasis on the "just" part in my mind than what you meant
But if by "just" you mean thats the only part you believe, you should look into Deism - it's basically the belief that there's a god that created everything, set it in motion, and then basically backed off and has no further involvement (and therefore no need for worship or anything like that)

this is why im still controversial over homoloveuality. Jesus never condemned it, he never spoke of it, and it was only ever mentioned in tne OT and in pauls writings. There fore I refuse to condem homoloveuals and I believe they will enter the kingdom of heaven. I also think that anyone who uses OT to condem homoloveuals is either ignorant (not in a bad way, they just dont realize), or hates the gays.

or hates the gays.
This. No one is "upholding" the bible's values; if they did, they would be honoring all of them. Instead, they just choose the values they like, and use the bible to "justify" them
Also homoloveuality was just one example

My sister came out as atheist a few weeks ago. My grandmother is now going all Jesus freak on her.

My mom's bf is the only one who officially knows, since he asked me, but I have a feeling many family members know, since I've never, even as a young kid, been interested in church or praying before dinner or any of the things my larger family does. One of my uncles had a fit last Easter cuz I wouldn't go to church, yelled at me right outside the church and said I wouldn't be allowed to eat lunch, but since it was my grandma's house, she let me

Why are you guys acting like being an atheist is such a controversial thing and you deserve attention for it

Oh. I shouldn't have put that there, I'm not a deist. I do think that there has been some intervention in some events, such as some of the abnormal things that happened in the Old Testament that would never have occurred naturally under any circumstance.

I didn't say a stuffstorm was a bad thing. I like debates, hell it's good preparation for the debate team I plan on joining. I post in topics like these more than most because through my debate I learn something, I change my opinions based on the facts presented. I can honestly say that some stuffstorms like this on this forum is a good thing (for me anyway).

I'm not neglecting that this topic exists, that wouldn't explain the numerous posts I've made here. What I was trying to say (and said badly) is that topics like this will always end in a debate and OP should be ready for this when makes a thread on a hot-button topic such as this.
