Then just say you have personal matters that you have to tend to. "i might also go see a movie" just sounds like some casual thing to blow off 15+ people. I didn't realize it was important. That's understandable.

First, watch your self, that last part is borderline flaming.

Second, you made a promise to seventeen people, who are going to rely on you. You should at least keep yourself open until you know you can actually commit. People are going to get pissed off at you if you just run off like that. I'm not saying your justified, it's just not polite to many people.
