Aluminum is usually a last-option type thing, try to avoid it if you can.
Think I've told this before but a friend of mine bought some bud and had nothing to smoke it with, he decided to try and smoke it the most natural and chemical free way possible, and made a pipe using a conical seashell with a smaller shell as a piece, and lit the bowl-shell with a magnifying glass to burn the weed.
Pretty elaborate but hey where there's a will there's a way to smoke weed.
Once when we lacked a lighter I tried to light a joint using a survival kit. Unfortunately it never worked so we used the oven burner, we didn't want to because my grandma wanted us to always smoke outside.
Before she died she smoked a little with us, it made her day.
