Author Topic: My dog has gotten skinnier recently  (Read 2397 times)

ignore the goop in his eyes, he takes a lot of medications for it

comparison to Tesla kitty

he used to be a little fat for a beagle, but around 2 days ago we noticed he really lost a lot of weight. before he used to look sorta like this dog:

does anyone know why this could have happened

my only guess is he might have worms

A: He is infected with parasites
B: He's not eating his food (I see in the 1st pic that he is completely ignoring his bowl of food)
C: He's naturally dying (is he old for a beagle?)
D: His digestive organs are failing (which again ties into him possibly dying)

he looks like a pretty normal weight to me

your dog was just fat before
your cat is also fat

my only guess is he might have worms
that's a good explanation. we're taking him to the vet really soon so we'll find out then, but yeah worms is a possibility.

in the first pic we were throwing him little pieces of bread because we needed him to stay still for the camera. he's only around 7 or 8 so idk if that's considered that old. the parasites and the failing organs are possible.

wtf he was fat

he looks okay now

yeah but we don't know why he suddenly lost so much weight in only like 3 days. could be parasitical like they said above.

First make sure he's not, like, preparing to die. If he's active and stuff then he's probably okay for now. Nevertheless, take him to the vet.

Yeah, vet'll explain why he's lost weight so quickly.
But, from apperance alone, he looks a healthy weight, so (if your vet says his weight is good) don't feel like you should bring him back to his previous weight.

Looks like a healthy weight to me, your dog was obese before. Bring to vet to explain rapid weight loss, might be worms or some other issue.

he is still pretty active, like he runs around outside and such, but he has been barking less and sleeping a little bit more. he also had a really bad limp a week ago, but he seems fine now. also, the fat dog in the OP isn't my dog, that dog is bigger and a little chubbier than how my dog used to be, but it was the closest picture I could find online

While weight loss that substantial is usually a sign of a bad thing, your dog is by no means underweight.

Take it to a vet?

im a professional dog vet so listen to me

its normal. its weight looks 100% normal right now, more healthy than when it was fat.

as for the weight loss, it could be anything. when dogs undergo their "heat" period (mating season) they tend to not eat a lot and just lose a lot of weight and use a lot of energy at the same time.

wait it out. if he gets skinnier with normal eating habits, see a vet for he can most likely have a parasite. no worries op i will always be here to provide 100% authentic animal advice

Have him see a vet, while this could be bad, it could be good if it's something you can fix, letting him live longer.
