Avalonian merchants in Albiton come across a cache of old books for sale.  Figuring that they'll fetch a good price back in Avalonia, the merchants buy the books and bring them to the Fatherland.  It is only then found that the books are a collection of the 66 books of the Bible, as well as the apocryphal books - written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.  The books date back to the first century and include use of the Tetragrammaton.  The books are translated and enter into the Library of Nazgar into the section dedicated to foreign religious works.

-snip-
SWAT, as I'd like to avoid moderating anything Avalonia does for obvious reasons, could you please moderate?  If not, I'll just use my own judgment and discernment and attempt to be reasonable.

Why would Albiton, the representation of the Roman and Christian nation at the time, give up their religious books at the time?

I mean like, people would probably KNOW that those books were pretty important.

You can't grab it, because there aren't a stuffload of Bibles and sometimes the original books are needed.

You make some valid points.  However, use of the Tetragrammaton (For those unaware, the Hebrew letters YHWH - which render into English as Yahweh or Jehovah), would make the books not conforming to Catholic dogma and therefore contraband after a manner of sorts given Article IV of your religious union.  Remember that Avalonian merchants buy books whenever they're able, as they'll be well compensated when they return to Avalonia and anyone looking to make a quick Cesk could pass along just about any musty old volume that the merchant knows isn't so common that the Library has two dozen of them.  Perfect opportunity for someone who wants to get rid of a dangerously unorthodox book.

Also, parts of the Bible, at least, should not be overly hard to come by, such as the Greek Septuagint and the Hebrew scriptures, given that  Jews had a culture in which literacy was valued highly and the words of the Prophets were not valued just a little.  Also of note is that by the end of the first century in Anagaea Christianity was fairly well established in nations, unlike in real life, so it seems reasonable that Bibles wouldn't be uncommon.  Avalonian merchants just happened to get a bit lucky and retrieve some older texts mostly free of alteration.

I am talking about the longevity of the books of the Bible, not the whole Bible.

Besides, the words of our LORD wouldn't be banned, even though pesky non-Jesus believers made the first testament.

I am talking about the longevity of the books of the Bible, not the whole Bible.
Explain to me what you mean by this.  Wow, I have had a long day.  Ancient mstar fishcripts have survived even to our day despite bad handling.  I see no reason why a near complete text, even a damaged one, couldn't survive the mere 200 to 250 or so years to the RP time if kept well enough, or at least that any absences caused by the ravages of time could not be filled with relative ease.

Also, when I say the Tetragrammaton I mean this:

not "LORD".  I'm talking about the inclusion of the Divine Name, something which is definitely not canon, but certainly is Biblical.  Whatever translation you used, try Ps. 83:18 or look in the prelude or foreword or what have you, it usually notes that "LORD" has been used instead of Jehovah or Yahweh, sometimes accrediting it to uncertainty as to how it should be pronounced (Hebrew didn't have vowels back then, so there is some room for this) despite the fact that names like Jehoshaphat or Jehoram appear.

Note that the merchants got it in Aramaic/Hebrew, which would certainly include the Tetragrammaton rather than newer translations which would probably contain something else, such as LORD.

As farmers of Avalonian descent in Avalonia's Eastern frontier interact more and more with the locals, they find them very pleasant and as a whole, not dissimilar to the populations of the surrounding nations.  Trade becomes prominent in the region, and as a result of all this, Avalonia proposes to Espul that with the area's general permission, the lands be annexed by the two nations to form a universally beneficial situation rendering the locals in no way subject to foreign attack, and Avalonia and Espul in possession of more lands.
Espul agrees, however, before the edict is established, a man serving in the Avalonian Council steps forward.  The man goes at lengths to explain that although an Avalonian citizen, he was born and lived his youth in this region, named Geran.  The man pauses, and then notes that after growing up in Geran, and after he has been on several travels in Geran, he recommends that either the Geransh governments be allowed a voice in this matter, or the Avalonia-Espul governments establish the region as a jointly-owned protectorate, rather than a divided people.  Although the Geransh are divided into six individual fiefdoms, they will not want to be separated from their brethren.

In a closed-door meeting, the leaders of Irajinad express the following points:

  • The Iraji military is the most advanced in the world.  At our fingertips, we can form an empire the likes of which have never been seen before!
  • If Galaumia can co-convince Haman and Osamar to back Irajinad, and participate itself, Irajinad will share it's advanced military technology.  It also wishes to rename the alliance the "Empire of the Four Crowns."  Irajinad also will train the members of the empire to fight with new weapons and new tactics, and will ask that the members fight alongside Irajinad to capture all the lands.

Also Plethora and Swat 3, whatever you guys determine, please observe rule 8.  Thank you.

The vote is held at 2-1.

So are they agreeing to the vote or not?
Also, the Galaumian Assembly Member brings up the point that Haman and Galaumia have no crowns, but rather Chieftains. To go back on our Tribal roots is to go back on our culture.

Random Events No. 13

Lotavik:  The Tasmenovan government secretly condemns any and all generals and soldiers involved in any hostilities with Lotavik almost overnight.  Immediately, the offending troops are recalled and during the middle of the night disarms and captures the Tasmenovan rebels involved in Lotavik's coup.  The Tasmenovan government then sends a message to Lotavik offering to restore the old alliance and aid in destroying any rebels native to Lotavik.  (POL: 100%)

Ezbátu:  Zenian forces conduct a large scale raid to the North, bringing lands all the way to the sea under Zenian control.  Local officials refuse to accept direct Zenian control, but agree to pay tribute and accept a Zenian military and economic presence on a coastal city and in the capitol, as well as a trade route on which Ezbatan merchants may not be taxed to said city.  (MIL: 90%)

Atenisia:  Increased trade caused by solidarity within The Holy Nations brings about a larger food surplus, a baby boom, and a generally greater tolerance of foreign tradition so long as the foreigners are Cassain Catholic.  Medical techniques traveling from Avalonia to Dirvash to Atensia decrease mortality rates of various diseases.  (POP:  80%)

Avalonia:  The larger part of the population of Geran, about 300,000 strong accepts Avalonian protectorate status, while another 200,000 or so toward the border of Espul likewise accept the status of protectorate under Espul.  Open borders between the two protectorates are guaranteed.  (POP:  80%)

Galaumia:  Nothing out of the ordinary here.

Caprica:  A high ranking, well liked general involved in the capture of the lands to the East conspires with leaders in the recently captured lands to form an independent nation.  He and almost half of the Caprican army and their families desert to the East and declare independence, causing some minor damage and destruction as they relocate, but causing little destruction overall.  It seems that the general has no plans of going to war with Caprica, merely of attaining independence.  (MIL: 0%)

Hlaohamarr:  Aldegar manages to hold the line against Hlaoman forces, repress guerrilla action behind the lines, and inflict somewhat more damage to Hlaoman forces than they received.  The war, in their eyes, is a stalemate, and they see fit to secure and keep the land they have rather than face the grueling task of taking the rest of Hlaohamarr, unless things should change.  (NPC:  40%)

Auria:  Nothing out of the ordinary here.

Espovon:  Nothing out of the ordinary here.

Rēsugurētā:  Pestilence and famine move through the Rēsunese homeland, claiming over 20,000 lives.  Although the plague has miraculously vanished, food production remains barely at subsistence level as many farmers died and their lands lie fallow and untended.  (POP: 0%)

The Council reminds the member speaking out that no forced inclusion was planned.  Avalonia communicates to Espul the need for open borders to keep the two protectorates happy under their new rulers, and the reply is to the affirmative, so the lands grow (I'll edit the map to show the new border).

(POL: 100%)

Ezbátu:  Zēnian forces conduct a large scale raid to the North, bringing lands all the way to the sea under Zēnian control.  Local officials refuse to accept direct Zēnian control, but agree to pay tribute and accept a Zēnian military and economic presence on a coastal city and in the capitol, as well as a trade route on which Ezbatan merchants may not be taxed to said city.  (MIL: 90%)
Listened to this while reading.  Hell yeah.

Erinamese delegation requests that the newly-occupied region be admitted as a new Confederation-controlled territory.  The territory is dubbed "Varakia."

(Plethora, if you could make all necessary map edits that you had in mind for this update, that would be fantastic.)

Because of good Tsekēnese relations with Sjinai, Erinaum also requests a peace treaty, and requests trade with the region.  Erinamese agents also encourage the other Ezbatan States to follow suit.

So are they agreeing to the vote or not?

Irajinad is withholding its vote, and is bargaining for a tight alliance and partial confederation, modeled after some kingdoms from the north.  If Galaumia, Haman, and Osamar will back Irajinad's planned conquests, then it will vote affirmative and share its technology.

Hm. Mkay.

Galaumia will change the name of the alliance to Empire of the Four Crowns. It also lobbys for Haman and Osamar to help Galaumia and Irajinad take over new lands. If they participate, they will get gold and new technology. Galaumia will provide the gold, which has been sitting in Galaumian treasuries for a very long time, and Irajinad will provide the new technology.

Meanwhile, war camps in Galaumia are raised. Smoke fills the skies of Galaumia, as war drums can be heard throughout the region. The hooves of horses clatter the ground, muddy and wet. Large wooden machines are seen being moved to the camps. Men in formal general attire are seen moving throughout the streets.

Meanwhile, after learning Rēsugurētā's language, the men's families return. After being left there by the Frankish delegation to learn the language, they return with books and bilingualism. The books are being copied and placed into Galaumian libraries. A new Frankish delegation is sent to Rēsugurētā, asking for a trade treaty.

In response to Erinaum's recommendation regarding Varakia, Zenia responds that to bring the conquered land up to an equal status with the conqueror is preposterous.  Varakia, on the other hand, clings firmly to the remnants of its sovereignty and makes it clear that it would prefer to remain as it is with the hope of achieving greater independence on its own.

Belania seeks better ties with Sjinai to some avail, and Zenia, having no shared border, sends a representative to talk and make friends from a distance.

Avalonians welcome the inclusion of West Geran into the Avalonian Union.  Roads, ditches, city walls, and fortifications are built in West Geran as per protocol.  To celebrate how well things are going and as a show of hospitality, Avalonia sends gifts to the leadership in Espul in the form of golden crowns resembling that of Espul's flag.

Approximately updated map.  I don't have the latest version, so I had to wind it a little.  SWAT, if you could fix it up where it needs it that'd be awesome, or if not I can without any problem.
