Author Topic: Computermix, Ipquarx, and Cca - CBM being hacked into to steal keys [chat+pics]  (Read 51608 times)

It had to be the best server making player in Blockland... didn't it?  :panda:
And who would that be?

Well this sucks, I guess my key is going to get revoked now.

Hey folks, remember when I said "never trust anyone with your key" in regards to this service? A sentiment I'm fairly certain was also expressed by Badspot a number of times in the past on other occasions?
I mean, I don't like saying I told you so, but, uh...
ikr. these guys are providing amateur services
its almost as if he stored all the keys in plain text

I'm pretty sure in the situation your key does get revoked, he'll just keep the first five characters and add new characters, only stuff thats bad about this is that if you want to use it on steam you'll have to use it in a entirely different account, but i think Badspot can untie keys from steam.

Except the fact that these "hackers" only decrypted the key.dat file, which EVERYONE has.

Oh yea I forgot to say if nobody knew this,
Valcle/Compy is computermix.

If the hackers got the whole key that doesn't mean they can use the steam account. SteamID authentication would not be affected.

Lmao I found out about this almost a month ago. Nobody has the full keys, just the last few characters of each key. This is old news Maxx. Sorry if I'm stating the obvious, I didn't feel like reading eight pages.

Oh, okay

Then we are safe from like, key deactivation?

That sounds like some good news, the only thing is
how do we know that he isn't still working on it?
it just seems pretty fishy that they would have apparentally the "last few characters"
MOR doesn't stop his stuff

Yup, that's it. That's my real key. Well, if it is deactivated... it's been fun. I'll still stay on the forums though. Love you all. But I do wanna say this...

Excuse me? All I wanted from this service was to host my own server. How was I supposed to suspect someone would get into their FTP server and decrypt the key.dat? I wasn't looking for my key to get stolen, so don't taunt us for using this service for what it is.

How could they get the last few characters of our key without getting the way thing? Only the first five characters can be retrieved by themselves because the BL_ID assigned to the key is generated from them. The last part of the key is completely random, how can a person just figure out the last bit of it without finding everything else? Your logic is flawed.

noedit: If it infact turns out computermix is doing all of this, I wouldn't even doubt that he wont stop either.
They are persistent.

Badspot can basically tell everyone who bought into the server hosting service, "I told you so". By giving out your key like this, you run the risk of moments like this.

It's nice that Badspot is being forgiving though. Let's hope we'll reinforce this moment as a sort of "live and learn" experience.

what if we made services like this against the rules. OH JOY
