The only way to comprehend is to work. There is no cutting edges, you only get better with practice.
Homework is absolute stuffe.

It's not interesting, it's easy to cheat/bludge and will only help a certain (tiny) proportion of people.

I've already said this a billion times in the other "Schools suck" threads.

Who cares if people cheat, the point is that you are the one who shouldn't cheat so you actually get better with what you're learning.

Face it, would you actually bother doing your own studying if homework wasn't set? At least most wouldn't, and homework is also a way to get you prepared for deadlines in the workforce.

Homework helps me when it's in a class I'm doing poorly in. Otherwise it's just a hinderance.

Without homework I'd have more time to dedicate to drawing, modeling, reading, listening to music, playing games, and sleeping.

Also I'm still waiting for my GitHub student pack to go through :(.

I'd enjoy it if we didn't have to wake up so early.

This pretty much.

I have to be waiting for the bus before dawn, which is completely handicapped especially in winter. I have to set my alarm for 5:45am every day.

Maybe you're slightly stupid, but here's something you should understand.

Everybody learns DIFFERENTLY. Schools unfortunately don't take that into account, and so they force everybody down the same track.

I came dead last in the grade for my English Advanced class. I'm now the only person who does any job related to writing from that class. I don't read often and I make a lot of grammatical errors because they forgeted up my education.

I wanted to do the programming class. I had to appeal to the teachers because I wasn't doing Advanced Math, but after I showed my teacher some of my previous programming work, he accepted me. Then I was told that because I was doing Religion (which is compulsory), I would not be allowed to do Programming. I now have very little programming ability because they forgeted up my education.

When I was doing Physics, I was doing great until Electricity, which was my favourite subject. In theory, I was helping everybody out and enjoying my time. In practicals, all the equipment was shoddy and broken, and so I had a lot of frustration. I failed my assessment because the school ignored my requests to replace the 10yo equipment, and my equipment on the day completely failed to get a simple reading. I had to drop out of Physics because they forgeted up my education.

When I wanted to do a simple 3D computer animation for my Drama HSC Individual IP, I had to spend months doing appeals to the Board of Studies so they would allow me, even though what I was doing was allowed by the requirements of the assessment. I ultimately ran out of time and had to present a really stuffty work because they didn't allow me to work on it until I got approval. I got low marks on that assessment because they forgeted up my education.

Tell me how your education system is so great, forgetface. From the way I see it, the only good education system is college classes after High School, and for good reason.

Jesus Christ tone down the hostility. I've been part of incredibly hostile conversations in the past and it only leads to ill will on both sides (and bans.)

I'VE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR YEARS!

Homework is how I learn. Especially in college with lectures, I usually tone half the stuff out thinking about other things or falling asleep. When I sit down to do a project or assignment, that's the time I really engage my mind and figure some stuff out.

-snip-
Aussies got it hard man.

I get really angry about this stuff. I could should have been a fantastic programmer and a much better writer because those classes were there, but the people teaching and the administration boards are the reason I'm now doing 2 courses at once, and still don't have a single loving game released.

I've watched people completely drop out of the education system and fall on hard times, even when they were incredibly intelligent. I know who to blame.

Why didn't you learn on your own?

Nevermind, that's a stupid question, I don't learn well on my own either.

Jeez, calm down. Manners is something people should be taught in school.

There is absolutely no way that everyone can be taught individually, that would be a horrendous expense on the government. Either leave public school or go private... Or stay in public school and make the most of what you got, and do a lot of extra personal studying.

they forgeted up my education.
Your education? The only "education" you get is what the government provides, and it does not belong to you. It belongs to the country. It's up to you how you make use of the education you are provided. For the most part teachers can only teach you so much, you have to do the extra work. If you're struggling so much then you need to do a lot of personal extra work, read, write, ask for advice online, get a personal tutor or something else. Nobody can learn for you, only you can learn for yourself.

Tell me how your education system is so great, forgetface.
I made the most of it and I'm well qualified now. I'm no genius either, I consider myself of average intelligence.

Yes
There have been like, 6 fights in the past month and a half

I don't learn well on my own either.
Exactly this. Without a mentor or teacher, I can't focus and so I will end up failing.

I've so far failed this programming course twice, and I've attempted about 20 or so programming books, all of which I quit half-way.

I can't do it. I need somebody there to help me, and that's why I love the college education system. You have teachers there that are a lot more personal and actually give a damn. My teachers are so awesome, that outside college they drink with me, they give me paid jobs, they help me work on certain projects...the only reason I'm top of game design is because I have those mentors.

I was in a private school.

Doesn't that bother you? That you don't dictate what you learn, and so your entire future career is decided by a bunch of suits who will never meet you?

I get that kids who haven't matured need basic training, but when teens are able to think for themselves and start to understand what path they want to take, I don't understand why we can't have the schools support that and offer teaching that's more personalised and works better for each student.

It's up to you how you make use of the education you are provided.
So I guess those special education kids are forgeted, huh?

Maybe you live in the upper-class world where you can afford to buy a lot of books and tutors, but I don't. I didn't have consistent internet for most of my schooling life. I spent most of time thinking about things, since nobody would teach me how to actually do those things, such as make games or create movies.

Nobody can learn for you, only you can learn for yourself.
But if the school prevents me from learning, then how am I supposed to learn at all? School is supposed to make knowledge easily digestible. I can't understand half of the stuff I read on the internet, because it's too complex.

I made the most of it and I'm well qualified now. I'm no genius either, I consider myself of average intelligence.
Congratulations to you. Hopefully you do well in life, but you need to realise that some of us weren't so fortunate to be given your good genes or your environment which allowed for you to be better at school.
