Author Topic: My school is crusading the Internet again.  (Read 3503 times)

It's happening again. My high school is bending over backwards trying to find out what kids do on their mobile devices just so they can block them from enjoying themselves. It used to just be image uploading sites (imgur, dropbox, mediafire, etc), social media, illegal sites, game sites (including Blockland, which mysteriously became unblocked one day), and forums.

Eventually, the school caught on to the use of VPNs, so now those are blocked. They've also gone all out and blocked Youtube, Pandora, apps that use online features, anything that contains certain keywords (e.g. proxy, bypass, VPN, virus, etc), plus more that I've yet to discover.

I can't wait to be out of this place. I'm just one credit hour from being considered a full time college student so it really blows that I have to be stuck here for hours with nothing to do now.

Any website with craft, tube, Vpn, and anything involving religion in either the url or title is blocked.  And yes, the Blockland forums aren't blocked...

they let us use pandora, and youtube is locked on educational mode. i usually just go on grooveshark.

Pandora was used both by me and the teachers. My art teacher would play music through the smartboard speakers using Pandora. Then it got blocked and no one was allowed to use it anymore. YouTube started out unblocked. The school started out by blocking the site but didn't block the app, so I was using it to watch Top Gear in my spare time. Now that doesn't work either.

Why the forget would you need to go on an illegal website in the middle of class

"Oh dont mind me guys, gotta download summa dat SEE PEE"

You know
It's never Reddit that they block.
I have made them block cryptic forums with communities of 10 people tops because I went on them at school.
But NEVER have they blocked Reddit

I know what the IT is doing over there.

I remember in middle school the IT guy had to resign because they found out he was going on /g/

what you need to do is buy some land next to your school, setup a router with a badass range, and give it fiber optic internet. freedom!!
