I just really want to focus for a bit on glass' comment on nuclear weapons and share my opinion

I don't like what he said about nuclear warheads not damaging the environment. Both of their uses against people razed cities and caused lasting effects and diseases. Due to this, their use is a war crime. Testing nuclear bombs is damaging to the environment and people who pass through areas affected by the radiation. Even transporting them is hazardous, as there have been several times the U.S. alone has nearly nuked itself or misplaced warheads. Even in diplomacy, their only purpose is to strike fear into enemies and use them as an ultimatum for demands. After the Cold War, many nuclear weapons were dismantled or otherwise destroyed by the nations involved.

this will likely get me torn apart from all angles because i dont even have the firmest grasp on what im saying

We don't need to spend our time funding the military so much anyway. I for one, am glad that the president decided that the military should be shrunk down to what it was before WWII. We spend over $600 Billion (USD) annually buying and making weapons and armor that we will probably never use.

Most of these funds have been spent trying to clean up previously-invaded nations that we have spent tireless amounts of time and effort to fix, but most of this money is actually getting wasted. When we currently left Afghanistan, most of our armored vehicles were sent to scrap yards to be junked for extra parts. Some of these parts got in the hands of the Taliban as well. This itself is an absolute waste of tax payer money.

It's just not necessary in this time period. Plus we also have military bases stationed in almost every nation on Earth and these also take sufficient funds to stay operational. This money could be used for more domestic purposes like financing more federal student aide programs and stuff that can actually stimulate our economy and help our own people instead of some  foreigners in a distant land who will grow to hate us.

War is bad, but it is sure interesting to look at all the technology behind it.

Harm: you speak like drone technology won't improve at all. Seriously, it's not going to be flawless yet. but if its allowed to grow, all the issues you've stated can be fixed. Not to mentioned that most military aircraft, drone or manned, have anti-missile defenses themselves.

This is Pripyat today:

Not so barren compared to what Fallout 1/2 show.

On the other hand the radiation forgeted up the DNA of local Fauna. Pretty everything born after the incident is mutant.

Armored Vehicles:

This is what we left behind. These things are too big and heavy for a conventional fight. They had limited uses.

Weapon Development:
The only reason why we continue to make weapons is because every else continues to develop them.

Bases: Abandoning most if not all of our oversees bases would require that NATO either step up their defense funding and increase their military size. Countries that we occupy would have to fend for themselves.

Having all those over sees bases also allows us to project our navy any where in the world. Abandoning them could weaken our sphere of influence.

Drones probably won't be as numerous and be kept around for low intensity conflicts.  However they won't be without flaw:
Electronics aren't cheap and are made out depleting none renewable resources. At least with humans around, wreckage can be salvaged and recycled.

Humans can think for themselves and adapt to the battlefield, even if communications are cut off. Drones can be jammed, hacked, or emp'd, they need a master command them.

Missiles:
Depends on what you are referring to.
There are several types of SAMS ranging from Radar guided missiles, Infrared Missiles, and electro optical missiles.

Infrared Missiles lock onto a heat source, they are prone to being fooled by flares.

Radar missiles use battlefield Radar systems to lock onto targets, they are immune to flares. Radar can be jammed, however newer systems are always being built. Some are harder to jam than others. Anti-Radiation missiles can take out radar equipment, but the aircraft carrying them are vulnerable to Infared and Electro Optical missiles.

Electro Optical Missiles rely on cameras and images to lock on to targets. They can be affected by line of sight.

This is handicapped. Sure lets drop all of our allies in favor of student aide, not sure when this really became the governments problem but sure, lets put aside our defense so we can diminish into a nation who can be kicked around. The US Government's job is to PROTECT the american people and their rights, not provide healthcare, student aide, and all that other stuff they do. Sure we can afford student aide and some other programs to benifit people here at home, but when those programs threaten our military's ability to stay ahead of any enemy, thats the day we dun forgeted up.

Oh no no one needs large defense budgets or nukes, its not like china or russia have been agressive to get what they want and to push back at US dominance, sure lets ignore that so I can get free health care wooo yay.

I disagree.  America has the strong NATO dome.  If we were to be pushed around, NATO members must respond.  The reason why our allies are wary of us is because of our thirst for dominance, which drives them into further combat.  If we were to pump funds into more civilian programs such as infrastructure and student aide and grants, it would stimulate the economy and ease our allies, not to mention that strong economy would in turn make our trade partners stronger and boost the value of the dollar—something, mind you, that would affect our influence on our rivals.  To say that America has no responsibility to look after its own economy by neglecting student aide is foolish.  Economics and diplomacy can sometimes be the greater power.  And maybe then could we have diplomatic, economic AND military power to boast since we can now afford it.

Furthermore what's even up with this "America must protect its citizen's rights" bullstuff?  This is by far the most clichéd thing ever said by anyone I've seen defending the American Armed Forces.  Yes, we have all the reason to praise our soldiers for "defending" our country and "our rights", but since when has the armed forces defined when we have rights or not?  When was the last time that the majority of registered voters knew stuff about America before they voted?  The civilians ultimately choose who has the rights and who doesn't.  This is done in lawmaking–but uh oh–voter turnout has shown that the majority of American registered voters are not convinced enough to trust their government with the ability to choose their rights the way they want it.

IMO, the best thing we can do now is pull an Iceland on all our media sources.

is free health care a bad thing?

is free health care a bad thing?
Not in and of itself.  It's mainly corrupt insurance companies.

YES A LEGITIMATE DEBATE TOPIC

The amount the US spends on its military is absolutely enormous. So much in fact if we took away the few useless programs we have going on right it'd drop their income by around $50 billion. (coughF-35cough)

The only position Russia is in to attack the US is with nuclear strikes or some other stupid garbage like such. Otherwise Russia can't do stuff. Poorly funded military, costly programs that have stuffty functions (PAKFA and basically their entire airforce), negative population growth, pissing off the west, and having a massive drop in value of the ruble.

is free health care a bad thing?
just makes taxes higher (mostly for people who don't even use that healthcare)
there's a fantastic system called capitalism that already exists to give these people healthcare and we should utilize it
