Bell re-orients the Flanker into attack position on the approaching Gripen by dumping some of her altitude for speed, so that she could turn around without slowing down the aircraft. She locks onto the Gripen and launches a heatseeker before accelerating so that she can reach optimal AAM launch range more quickly.
The heatseeker hits the enemy plane head-on, destroying everything up to the intakes. It flies on much in the way you'd expect a plane in its condition to, which is to say it doesn't.
I turn towards the one engaging me, lock on, and fire a heatseeker, and do the same for the one attacking the transport.
The first missile strikes the enemy plane but deals a nonlethal level of damage. The second plane (which wasnt attacking a transport, by the way) drops flares and continues on its merry way chasing the Mercanan squadron leader.

: Blast, he's got me locked in! Out of flares, gonna have to maneuv- stuff!
As he attempts to dodge the missile, his badly-damaged plane finally succumbs to its severe structural wounds and tears itself asunder. A watchful eye shows you that he was able to eject, but he can't exactly defend the convoy from a parachute.
I keep the Saab in the lock circle. stuff this missile is taking a while.
It finally reaches its target and destroys it. Before you can celebrate, however, the AWACS comes on the horn again.

: Get ready, there's
another flight of planes headed this way. Something larger on the horizon, too... trying to find out what it is.
Your HUD recieves the info from the AWACS and shows the incoming planes, a pair of Rafales and another two Viggens. Steele and one of the Mercanans find themselves on the receiving end of a radar lock.

Remaining enemy craft:
2x Saab Gripen (within close range)
2x Saab Gripen (at long range)
2x Rafale (long range)
