Also I'm still bleeding everywhere so I pass out again.
the medics would not have put you in a cot and then up and not tended to your wounds

Whatever the cause of the earlier hiccup was, it seems to have passed, as the defense systems are once again firing normally. Wild rumors make their way around the base about the cause of the mishap, from saboteurs among the base personnel, to some sort of new orbital EMP weapon, to a Malantan or Imperial strike force on the base's doorstep, about to attack at any time.

that's a good point

Jaakko chugs the water and relaxes on his bed.

i am way too bloody tired for overly complicated thought rn

Roger shifts uncomfortably as its clear that its moved onto a new day and his sleepless night was of course eerily quiet. He finally decides it's only him who can break the silence.

"Alright, goodmorning? Is this how we'll start off our day? It's been a bit quiet and i'm here without knowing your intentions. I'm by all means a liability in the grand scheme of things, so what gives? Keeping me around for dinner later? Think i got something valuable to tell you? This is perhaps the most awkward sleepover i've been too since the lock-in at Palestra."

In high school I had to read Frankenstein. At the end of every chapter the doctor kept passing out to the point where it became stupid.

: Simple, really. You are an outstanding pilot, if that little maneuver of yours is anything to go by. If you are in our custody, or even flying for the good guys, then you are not flying for the enemy anymore, and that makes life easier for us. Does that not make sense?

"Good guys" is painfully subjective. Otherwise i wouldn't have to be an outstanding pilot absorbing missiles."

: If you are implying what I think you are, I must remind you that the Coalition declared war on us, not the other way around. You would not be out here absorbing missiles if your leaders possessed good judgement.

Roger rolls his eyes.

"Consider your assumption invalid. You sound like i really had a choice in the matter. I'm more of an isolationist as opposed to delving into other peoples business. But now that things have gotten started i'm pretty much stuck with it. The Coalition isn't the type to simply step out of a war after starting it. If you want me to "fly" for you maybe you need to make a really good case. A list of "Top 10 reasons Mr. Roger should fly for the slavers." You could probably get a lot more sympathetic support from even your enemies if you guys weren't walking human-rights disasters. You have to have something I want in which case for a Huit would probably be difficult to provide."

"Stupid cunt doesn't realize that a human trafficking operation was traced back to her country,"

Kissinger has seemed to take a liking to being roger's personal brain ghost cerebral spook.

Tippy lightly massages the area where the glass was pulled. It stung like hell.

"I'm going to get a scar probably... I can't keep twiddling my thumbs like this, i'm going to go ask permission to get on the SAR team to look for Roger."

Tippy goes uh, wherever she needs to go to ask that kind of question.

: Well, reason one would probably be that the alternative is a prison camp. Having been in one myself I assure you that there are much nicer conditions in a slave barracks. Things you want? How about air conditioning and not having to wake up at five in the morning for construction detail? Most people would want that.

You notice something moving among the foliage behind her, but can't make it out.

Instead of blindly accepting the Aesthian media's portrayal of events, Kissinger should have done some of his own research into the extent of the human trafficking operation that kicked this all off. Especially the Huit government's response. He might have learned a thing or two.
