"Oh no."
I start packing my things.

Richard stares blankly at the airmen behind the chainlink barrier separating the baggage hold and the claiming area. A couple of duffel bags are meticulously picked out from a pile and brought to him on the counter. He checks the tags to confirm they're his, hoists them onto his shoulders and heads for the barracks.

Only an hour after stepping off, and I'm ordered to prepare for a base transfer? That was fast. Just another day in the office, he concluded. Didn't make him feel any less tired. At least he didn't have to do any packing.

Minutes later, Richard arrives at the doorway to the barracks (according to the paper crumpled in his chest pocket, anyways). Taking note of the people going through their belongings, he takes a few steps forward and clears out his throat.

"Excuse me, are these the barracks assigned to the 514th?"

Gus looks up from packing and eyes the newcomer. "They were. Can I help you?"

Jaakko yanks his door open at the sound of a familiar voice.

"Holy stuff!" he shrills.

He steps out of the doorway and faces Geary.

"Welcome back! How was being an instructor?"

Haven't seen this guy before. Before Richard could respond, a door flies open and out comes a familiar face.

"Jaakko! It's good to be back, man! That joint exercise training stuff was a damn chore. Stuck babysitting a buncha forgetin' smartass hotshots."

He turns back to the other person.

"Sorry I didn't give out my name earlier. I'm Major Richard Geary, one of the flight leaders for the 514th. Nice to meet you."

Richard extends his hand.

Gus straightens immediately and returns the handshake. "Sorry, -sir. Lieutenant Gustav Thomsen. Nice to meet you too, sir."

"Gustav Thomsen... Ah. You're our most recent transfer, right? I look forward to flying with you." Richard smiles a little before remembering the load he's shouldering and the feeling of fatigue seeping into his bones. "... Alright, I think I'll get some rest now. I'll see you guys again in the morning. Try not to stay up too late."

Richard walks a little bit further down the hall, looking over a piece of paper and disappears behind a doorway.

Tippy chews her 18th pack of gum in this 24 hour period

Hmm. Less of a richard than some of our other COs. What a refreshing surprise.

"Welcome back, Geary."
How long has it been?

Richard pokes his head through the doorway, tracing the voice back to the short Kintharian standing some paces away.

"[I'm back,]" he says with a heavy Aesthian accent, "Good to see you again, Captain Yui."

"Good to see you again as well, sir."
I start dragging my bags over to the air cruiser.

The air cruiser is currently at an altitude of 20,000 feet, several hundred miles north of your position. Keep in mind these things need either specifically designed facilities or a vast stretch of flat terrain to land, and you are currently right near a city. You will be taking off from the base and then perform a midair landing on the carrier, which will then take you the rest of the way to the Deltan airbase.
