"Well, they can't ping you on radar and we all got this poor visibility, you're pretty well off if we get into a long range shootout."

"Helpful for Faw and I, not so much for you two."

A pinprick of light appears; 20 degrees to the formation's left, and 50 degrees above, in front of some of the clouds. It lingers in place for quite a while, unlike a plane would, only disappearing after another cloud passes in front of it.

oh no
I walk around the ship a little bit, the fusion engines somewhat dulled by the walls. I head to the mess hall and hope the patrol spots nothing of note.

No matter where you go through the ship, the omnipresent roar of the engines can not be escaped. Even in the cafeteria, they (as well as the sounds of crew on the flight deck, seemingly immedately above you) are loud enough to make it hard to think. You get the feeling that acoustics were not high on the priority list when this carrier was designed, and that this would probably be one of the worst places on the planet to wake up in hung over.

The patrol continues for around thirty minutes with no further interruptions, until Shortsword and Walt find themselves on the receiving end of a radar lock.

I deploy chaff and drop in altitude banking off to the left

"breaking off of formation. something is locking me."

"Roger." I put my plane into a gentle climb and scan the area intently, keeping an eye on the plane's instruments and radar.

The lock disengages, but with no sight of the enemy responsible, there's no telling when it may return.

You catch a quick glimpse of something, somewhere ahead of and above you, but it disappears from your tracking almost immediately.
