"Negotiation was an option, but you didn't want that anyway, did you?!" Jaakko returns in a venomous tone into the radio.

He keeps up with the aircraft.

"Negotiation was an option, but you didn't want that anyway, did you?!" Jaakko returns in a venomous tone into the radio.

He keeps up with the aircraft.
"Of course not! We wanted a whole lot of you to die!"

"CIC, Flight 6497 is going down. The accent of the hijackers sounds sl- Huit in origin. They wanted to be shot down it seems," Jaakko reports in a harsh and angry tone.

: Understood. Maintain contact until impact, then return to the carrier.

The hijackers begin chants of "Long live the Empire" in their native tongue in the final seconds before crashing into the ground straight-on.

Rocket holds silent for the last moment.

"What loving torture." He sighs. "I'm done here, heading back."

Rocket flies his Foxbat back to the carrier.

Jaakko pulls away around a thousand meters from the ground and banks hard. He watches the airliner slam into the ground.

"Impact," Jaakko reports, in an angry and sad tone. He relays the time and his position.

He flies over the wreckage, anger for the Huit slavers boiling in him that he had not felt since Tocatlan. He mutes his radio and slams his fist against the roosterpit wall, yelling for the Gods' damning of just about everything. The pain in his hand from the outburst lingers for some time as Jaakko climbs back towards the carrier.

Jaakko returns theme.

: Damn terrorists..

Bell starts heading out of the CIC to meet Jaakko and the new pilot once they have left the recovery deck.

The gyms aboard the Tordenskjold were not to Gus's satisfaction. They were small, cramped, lacking enough equipment and nearly constantly filled with crew coming out of or going into work rotation. Working out in the somewhat cramped crew quarters was mostly a no-go as well, though Gus appreciated Pansar's excellent foresight in bringing a pull up bar. Between Mjolnir's hectic schedule in Kronovostok and these circumstances, maintaining an appropriate level of fitness was challenging, to say the least. He walks past one of the gyms, noting it being nearly full with irritation, as he makes his way to the medbay. Mentally, he recalls who all he knows being in here.

Scorch, Lorens, Pansar, Ellie, and of course Walt. The medbay is more active than last time, with other pilots from the combat ops over the past week occupying many of the beds.

He remembers his intention, when Ellie was injured, to "return later" - apparently a week later, now. A cursory search for Walt confirms that he's in OR, but he spots the rest without much issue - Lorens and Scorch, covered in gauze for burns, along with Ellie and Pansar, both seemingly better than before.

He approaches the four quietly so as not to disturb the other patients. "How are you all?"

"Gus!," Lorens exclaims albeit in a hushed tone, "Hanging in there, man. stuff hurts, but I'm pretty sure the others have it worse." He glances at the others in the medbay, finally fixating on Pansar, whose wounds were likely the most life-threatening.

Gus follows his gaze and laughs.

"Brought some news. Not sure how much you all hear in here. Djuriskas and the rest of us neutered the Impavidus before the cruisers blew what was left of it to hell. Went better than I expected, honestly."

He grins.

"Your brother's crazy, man. Flew the Wyvern out to flank and ended up engaging the carrier by himself at the end. Surprised that thing is still in one piece, Kintharian engineers are pissed I'm sure."

Lorens groans.

"Oh, Ark, that bastard always bites off more than he can chew. I was wondering why I haven't seen him since you guys got back, though hearing about it now, I'm just glad he wasn't brought in here on a stretcher, or worse..."

He scratches his forehead with his good hand and lets out a sigh.

"Well, good to hear you guys made it back in one piece..." He pauses. "Everyone did make it back, right?"

Gus takes a more somber tone as his smile fades.

"No. Caesar went down over the carrier. And Walt- the P4 on the Skepna overheated. Some design fault or another, plasma leaked into the cabin."

He stops.

"Don't know if you saw him rushed in here. Parts of his legs were burned to the bone."

Gus shakes his head.

"He's grounded. Maybe indefinitely."

"That's-"

Unable to find the words, Lorens simply looks down. He thinks about Elijah and Walter when something crosses his mind.

"I remember the intelligence officer that came to debrief me mentioned that something in the P3's gain circuitry failed and caused the Raven to explode. Seems like there's a lot that needs to be sorted out with these prototype plasma guns. I'll have to think twice before I take one again anytime soon..."

Recalling the last few seconds he had control of his aircraft, Lorens turns over his left arm and examines his burns, which suddenly seem insignificant.

"I'll definitely be praying for Walter, and for Caesar- Elijah too. At the very least, I hope they survive."

"How many have we lost now?"
Markus doesn't even try to hide the tone of sadness in his voice. He coughs, then takes a look at his burns. He turns towards Lorens, feeling nothing but shame. He opens his mouth, but is unable to bring himself to apologize.

What's wrong with me?

Instead of addressing him, and actually apologizing, he turns his head back towards Gus.
"If Walter's legs are burned to the bone, he likely won't be cleared to fly again. I suppose we can only hope for the best."

Eremit silently watches the conversation develop from beside Pansar's bed.
