Author Topic: Americans choose Harriet Tubman to be on the $20 bill  (Read 48754 times)

Well Jackson was the democrat to be voted in as president. The same democrat party that supported slavery segregation, the same democrat party that Obama is in. Isn't that some irony.

Jackson was no where close to a good president. At the time he was a pretty popular guy, he was considered the people's president. He invaded Spanish territory to fight some Seminoles, and convinced the next president to put his Indian removal act into progress. Not a good guy.

Our nation has a dirty history, all nations have one. Acknowledge the past, learn from it and move it.

What gives you the right to preach for an entire people? Do you speak for me, do you speak for cappytino? I have grandparents who are native americans. A lot of people pull the native card, most of them had a great grand parent decended for some person who decided to lay or get laid by a native on the trail of tears, yet they have no cultural connection to the tribe which just means they are white people.

Another thing to note is that there are very few full bloods left. If you go to any reservation, you will find very light skin people.

One more thing. Many tribes also owned black slaves. There were bands of Cherokees that fought for the CSA.

srsly america, why would you replace THIS?!

Andrew Jackson is a badass. You cant push Andrew Jackson into a corner like that.

not if you go by a general "don't be a richard to people" policy. world problems solved.
listen i am not necessarily one to talk but you are embarrassing yourself

yeah killing the natives off the country is totally badass amirite

Riddler was a badass too. just look at how cool he looks!!

I'm going to have to disagree with you, the Holocaust had profound effects, such as the creation of Israel. And the actions of the Roman Empire had a deep effect on western civilization, such as developing a republic, and spreading Christianity
ok fine maybe rome mattered
holocaust maybe to palestine

It seems you don't have an actual concept of cause and effect which is the basis of history and why people even bother learning it in the first place.
i find history very interesting and fun to learn about
but a lot of it does not matter today

listen i am not necessarily one to talk but you are embarrassing yourself
you are still being an idiot as usual

A lot of people pull the native card

1) his head is way too loving big for that body, it almost looks like it was poorly photoshopped on.

2) there is a huge difference between what actually happened and what the shortsighted chroniclers of the age portrayed in contemporary media. by most accounts, the only good thing andrew jackson ever did was encourage universal male suffrage.

don't do this stuff and say only some of it matters. if some of it does, then all of it does. every little bit of history has far-reaching ramifications that we're still learning about today. saying that a part of history "doesn't matter" is just asinine.

if everyone it affected directly are gone, it does not effect us and does not matter.

Things that do not effect us and do not matter:
- Pretty much all of history before, like 1900

The Republicans in the 1890's to 1920's, you know, like Theodore Roosevelt, also supported high taxes to support the economy, high wages and were astoundingly anti-corporate and broke up big businesses all the time because they felt business had too much influence. Now the GOP just kicks back to kiss corporate ass. So I guess you've never heard of ideological realignment.

but a lot of it does not matter today

Except for, you know, everything?
Becuase, you should know, most of history has a

All history matters. It's just a matter of how much we know it has influenced our lives. However, everything eventually effects eachother in extremely complex, counter-intuitive ways as predicted by chaos theory. Even the wingbeats of a butterfly can change the course of history given enough time: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butterfly_effect

That wasn't his point. He was a competent general, as seen in the Battle of New Orleans

alright you REALLY got no room to talk

nah i'm not going down into butterfly effect-esque bullstuff. obviously everything that has happened has some small effect. someone who died could've had a long family tree that extended into a bunch more and caused a bunch of people and and and. there is nothing here that you can look back at and say "oh yep there it is, that's what changed. that caused it." andrew jackson pushed slaves west, some died. harriet tubman saved some slaves. big whoop. it doesn't affect us in the long run.

alright you REALLY got no room to talk
i REALLY do. you're an idiot.

I disagree. A lot of old events happening today can be traced back to things in ancient history.

yeah and comparing him to a delusional tyrant who's fascist rule made for the least efficient state ever is p dumb zay.
