The only thing that feels off about these is the gore

I know it's a staple of the series at this point but it's kind of jarring alongside the "olde cartoon" shtick, like if Elmer Fudd shot Daffy Duck for duck season and instead of his bill flipping around there was just a spigot of blood where his head used to be, it'd be weird

id figure that its supposed to feel off; fallout's all about the cheery 50s aesthetic getting gored and slaughtered by war never changing

like the whole setting revolves around a certain level of stepford 'this is more lighthearted then it really ought to be' off-keyness and like as much as that stepford style is actually fun and interesting unto itself it is also the backdrop to horrible murder

That interview is old though. :P

I don't like how they introduced the character as some old-world guy with a certain set of ideals in the trailer and turned around and had him wearing stupid outfits and going about some wantom slaughter like a forgetin maniac

Just because you have character customization doesn't mean you can ignore character development, and I have a feeling the game's gonna be loaded with awkward tone shifts between gameplay and story

what are you talking about, they never gave him ""certain ideals""
it's an rpg game. your character can be whoever you want them to be

I agree with this

it's not like they set up a huge back story for the protagonist. that would just ruin things for a player who wants to make the character their own

what are you talking about, they never gave him ""certain ideals""

The first half of the trailer is the protagonist setting up the narrative. Then there was a seemingly awkward tone change between the guy just waking up, joking around with his old robot pal and meeting a dog to wearing a dress and mowing people down with a minigun.

If that's any way to tell how the writing direction of the game is going to be, the gameplay and story segregation will get really ridiculous :v

literally the only thing that's known about the main character is that they are a straight veteran and live an average middle class life in the future
afaik the only part that needs to happen after you leave the vault is meeting a dog

literally the only thing that's known about the main character is that they are a straight veteran and live an average middle class life in the future

You know there's more to pick up on a character rather than what's blatantly stated, right?

I would imagine that your average veteran living an average middle class life wouldn't devolve into wantom homicide and crossdressing, at least not presumably in the first few hours/days of getting out of the vault.

Of course it's a small thing I'm picking at that I didn't like, it's purely my opinion on the matter rather than fact.

if you don't want your character to do that, they don't have to

I'm talking about the trailer though

That was just pure fan service though. Just to show off some of the things you can choose to do.
There's not going to be a main storyline where the character has to be a lunatic and play dress up. It's not Saints Row.

Exactly.
Fallout New Vegas had your backstory as some Courier who needed to deliver a platinum chip. You never had to follow along with that. you could go and run around pretending to some psycho and murder everyone and have something else as the backstory
