You're literally using Twitch chat and Anther's ladder to make conclusions about the Melee community lol
I'm betting you've never been to a tournament before

You do understand people act differently in reality right? If you act cancerous irl you get punched in the face/kicked out of the venue, things are a lot different online where your animosity comes into play. And yes I'm using two popular spots where Melee players congregate beyond real life settings, even then you had the instance with people chanting for Melee during the grand finals of Apex(?) Smash 4, which although only one instance, shouldn't have happened, nor should it have been possible to begin with (as it shouldn't have had enough people to catch on.) So yes, if you disagree you need to open your eyes or look at a few more cancerous vs non cancerous communities as comparison.

well I haven't been to a tourney because im just not that good at melee so its not worth it, tell me, how IS the community?
If someone is clearly trunching me they usually offer advice or constructive criticism, I've never felt disrespected by a player at my locals. There's definitely a lot of camaraderie and friendship in the Chicago scene because it's is so small, but I consider myself an outsider to that because I've not really been entrenched there.

People host smashers they don't even know in their houses sometimes, they lug their CRTs and gamecubes to weeklies and majors, they carpool with people from their scene to tournaments, they host smashfests in their houses for anyone to come. It's not uncommon for groups of smashers to go to restaurants after a tournament to hang out. It's hard to be an starfish in that kind of environment.

The thing is having a mindset of "wow you suck, I'm so much better and cooler than you, stop playing the game" is unhealthy for competitive play. It stems from insecurity. The kinds of guys who do this are being driven to play by what other people think of them, in interest of their reputation or something I guess. Most of them fall to the wayside because their source of motivation is unsustainable.

What? Of course I understand that, my point was you're using the stufftiest parts of the INTERNET smash community as a frame for judging the entire competitive scene, 99% of which is based in REAL LIFE and not the internet, most of whom are at the very least polite.

I agree the Apex thing was stuffty. But in the end that was a few dozen guys in the crowd starting that. Smash 4 had also ran like two hours over IIRC, so it was less to do with animosity and more to do with being inconsiderate. Also, the entire smashbros subreddit front page was statements from community leaders and such talking about what happened, that chant was by no means tolerated.

The thing is the stufftiest parts of the smash community are also where the majority are all congregated. The competitive scene in reality of course will be at the very least polite because of what I already said, it doesn't matter if you gathered the whole of 4chan in a giant room, they'll mostly be polite because if they aren't there's a consequence. It's the same sense where you only really know who someone is when you're not there, if you're in their face they're FAR less likely to say something negative. I'll put it this way, despite the fact that I'm using the stufftiest places as examples, almost every other game isn't as toxic. For example Twitch chat may be stupid a majority of the time, and filled with memes, etc. But most of the time there aren't just a ton of people being richards, that's the opposite when Melee is involved, in fact a majority of the time it is just a bunch of people being richards unless the stream is currently Melee, and even then Smash 4 STILL comes up semi-often by Melee players. I genuinely don't know how you aren't seeing this, my brother pretty much plays Melee all day everyday and HAS been to tournaments and still agrees it's cancerous.

And I'm saying the stuffty people online are the stream monsters and overwhelmingly a minority. Neither of our claims are verifiable, but unlike you I've experienced both sides of the community (internet and in real life)

>implying other fighting games dont have toxic twitch chats
>implying dota and league dont have toxic twitch chats
>implying CSGO doesn't have toxic twitch chats

Oh your brother agrees? That turns the whole argument on its head.

In the same post you tried to nullify my claim by saying you've experienced both sides of things, and then I point out my brother agrees who has experienced both and you act as if it doesn't matter. I clearly stated many twitch chats don't have toxic chats like melee does, ALL of the games you've mentioned are KNOWN to have stuff communities. Like seriously you managed to pinpoint the pinnacle of toxic chats in games and every game with a well known toxic community as well.

Perhaps the mobas are toxic but every FGC game certainly is not

I wasn't calling out the experience part so much as I was calling out the "my brother" argument often being fake

Warchamp7 (a Project M dev) tweeted this on thursday. This announcement is to happen October 4th, which is tomorrow.

A Twitter account was found for "Wavedash Games", and it uses the orange W symbol in the picture Warchamp tweeted as its logo. There's a website too with an email sign up for tomorrow's mysterious announcement.

And lastly, this guy (Wavedash Games' founder) says we'll find out during The Big House 5 tomorrow.

tl;dr there's something PM related happening tomorrow at TBH5, seems to be pretty big. Get hype?
