Author Topic: Google starts punishing AdBlock users with unskippable YouTube video ads  (Read 6591 times)

The sole reason I hate ads is because of how intrusive they are.

Adblock takes up a stuffload of a memory so I click skip ad instinctively

if you use adblock altogether youre just asking for your ram to be consumed

So use uBlock? I didn't think anybody actually used the old AdBlock anymore.

i don't have adblock and i dont even get ads on youtube/any other sites so B)

some youtubers don't really deserve the amount of money for what they do yet some other youtubers do deserve money as they spend time editing, writing scripts, animating, etc.
overall this is good, but should be enforced on more browsers

uBlock > Adblock
Pretty much, uBlock is better in every way and its far more efficient than AdBlock. If you're still using Adblock, you're a fool.

i just dont use adblock cause most ads are skippable or 30 secs long
also because im a fan of google and enjoy chrome

holy stuff there's a lot of posts i wanna reply to :x

hey guys
what if i told you
most of the money you make as a youtuber is not from the ads
but from views
so please stop this bullstuff "they need money1!11" argument

I'm not 100% versed in the program but the youtube partnership deal allows google to run ads on your video, giving you a cut of the ad revenue.

It's chump change until you start getting 1 million+ viewers regularly. After that, you could start merchandising your screen name but a lot of youtubers who make money off of their videos do so through ad revenue.

some youtubers don't really deserve the amount of money for what they do yet some other youtubers do deserve money as they spend time editing, writing scripts, animating, etc.

If they're getting the views, they're most likely appealing to some crowd and therefore do deserve the views. It takes a fanbase to make them rich :v

This is the most backassward logic I've ever seen. Let me rephrase what you just said for you:
"For video entertainment, it makes the most sense to obstruct the entertainment."

The point of intrusive ads is not to inconvenience you, but rather to get the ad to be viewed as easily and as often as possible. Since youtube is a video-hosting website, running video ads guarantees that they'll be seen without adblock. At this point, viewers aren't really seen as people by the advertisers, just as consumers.

you're preaching it like it's a fact

It would take an entertaining person to make a video worth watching without putting in their share of the effort. If they provide quality videos with no effort at all, all power to them. The unfortunate side is that Oasis is right in the fact that those who do put more effort into their videos end up making better videos than those who don't.

He must not be good then because I never heard of him.

He has 1,221,095 subscribers. He must be doing something right.

Ad blockers and noscript are pretty essential to internet browsing. With how intrusive ads have gotten these days, it's more of a safety feature rather than an anti-establishment action.

The best thing you could do is pick out places you actually want to help get ad revenue and unblock their ads. These content creators rely on ad revenue to continue making their content, hosting their websites and live their lives. I'm not trying to tell you that you should unblock all ads but that you should seriously consider whether or not any certain content creators deserve your viewing or not.

With that said, forget intrusive ads with a cactus. Just like any business model, advertising got corrupted by the people in it to make a quick buck. On paper it can be a great, unobtrusive way to generate revenue off of your content, but the way it's been executed is the sole reason there's adblock in the first place. You can say that content creators on youtube don't deserve the ad revenue, but tell me, how often do you watch videos on youtube?

ads today are so loving annoying there is no way I would ever disable adblock even for supporting websites because holy stuff they all just like try to like stand out and honestly I can't concentrate with them there and there are websites that use scripts to block adblock but a website that blocks adblock is not a website worth visiting

i disabled adblock once
the youtube ads were 3 minutes long and i couldn't skip them
also i was getting audio ads on other pages
i don't think im ever going to disable again
