Author Topic: Google starts punishing AdBlock users with unskippable YouTube video ads  (Read 6590 times)

Let's have a reminder of what you were originally talking about:MoltenKitten was obviously talking about YouTubers that actually put work into their videos. High quality content that they spend their days on as a full time job. You then belittle that argument by equaling hard work to stuff tier content that does not have a lot of work put into it.

You obviously are confused about what a lot of YouTubers do, and perhaps you should stop watching stuffty channels that just sit down and record gameplay, and instead watch people that are doing a lot of cool and entertaining stuff.
but i wasn't calling it stuff-tier
my original point is that it's not hard work

Opinionated.
Yes, that is an opinion. Your point?

Just sitting there recording gameplay is not hard work. That's what you said. Editing videos and being entertaining is work. Its obviously not sweating in the coal mine work, but its work that deserves compensation.

you're preaching it like it's a fact

Good.
"Hey thanks for running all these servers for me, storing stuffloads of data and using stuffloads of bandwidth! Sorry, what, you said something about upkeep? Nah, let me use AdBlock."

I think Google is perfectly justified in doing this. They pay for all of the upkeep of YouTube, and clearly people think it's a great service. It's not hard to disable AdBlock for YouTube. And as other people have brought up, the video creators deserve compensation too. This isn't evil; using AdBlock is.

I don't find those people stuffty, and several of those people are actually good at what they do.

you're preaching it like it's a fact

This.

um
excuse you
I have never heard of them before either on the internet or irl

Start looking.

I'm sure they are, I even bet that I watch a few people that don't put a lot of post-production work into their videos.

Oh well I use ublock. Anyway I unblock sites I care about that actually need the revenue they get, Youtube is one of those sites only because I want to support the content creators.

This is some people's life style so I am gonna go ahead and say Youtube is a business and producers are its subsidiaries.

If someone decided to have their MAIN job as Youtube and have no backup plan then that person is loving handicapped. It's a hobby at best. Also there is this thing called Patreon that ALOT of youtube content creators use and is much better then this ad bullstuff

The sole reason I hate ads is because of how intrusive they are. I cannot stand how annoying they can be when I just want to view a page. Any company should realize that taking away from a video or anything else on the page with "DOWNLOAD NOW" or other stupid stuff is a bad thing.
I'm not going to stop using adblock either way.

^Pretty much

I don't mind side bar ads and what not but It's rather annoying even just for 5 seconds

For non-video content, like news sites, Imgur, et cetera, I totally agree. I leave AdBlock off for all sites until they play a video/audio ad, give me a popup or something over my content, or uses a stuffty "DOWNLOAD NOW" ad, in which case I enforce a zero-tolerance policy. However, for things like YouTube, where videos and such are the main content, I think video ads are justified.

using adblock is piracy.
i personally am an avid anti-piracy person (i gave up youtube-mp3 a while ago and now just CD-buy everything on amazon or listen to youtube playlists) and even i can say that using adblock is NOT piracy

but then again anyone could just say "lol your planr" and what i say almost instantly becomes irrelevant to them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
