I do see him snapping and you must be blind or too busy laughing to see he is in pain. It is the general mind of a bully (yeah I said it go complain about how I am a whiner) that they are doing nothing wrong.

Not being tribal/homophobic is a good start. Avoid the subject, if someone replies with it don't reply back. People will get bored.

People are gonna remember it, and that's probably how it's gonna be. The best you can do is not indulge people by talking about it.
