It probably takes him months of investigation before he can find enough information to get someone's account. The reason it happened to Joel is because he wasn't careful enough. If Pewdiepie was as careless it would've happened to him by now, being basically the number one target on YouTube for this kind of stuff.

Of course it wasn't going to be easy, I will agree with the fact that he should of been more careful about the stuff he put out though, and it wouldn't have hurt him to use two step authentication.

XSplit is what joel, vinny, and the other vinesauce crew uses to broadcast to twitch. Supposedly, joel was very careless and used the password that is assigned to his youtube to register for xsplit.

I wouldn't count my chickens on the definitive causation of the breach, but XSplit is a video streaming/capture program. I think he uses it for streaming.
