Author Topic: Modified Local Chat  (Read 4455 times)

I thought if anyone could modify the script from the old local chat mod and add it with more features, and a few tweaks. Here's a list that would be great. I made this topic again since it was "too old'.

* Talking animations would play instead of those star things after a message is sent to local chat or global. Example

* Global chat, by using the team chat key, or only on death. A RTB pref would be added for enabling this feature. I also understand that there's preferences to speak only on death, but why not add a feature to use Y for global chat as well?

* Another RTB preference for enabling or disabling the mod instead of typing /L to toggle it each time you play Blockland with this mod.

* Compatibility with this great mod?

* Toggling that bottom print message that notifies which players have heard you, if any others need/wanted it, a RTB pref would go with this.

* Dynamic voices

CHAT WITH CAPS EVERYWHERE would result in the chat distance to be some where in the 40's or 50s, or it can be changed with the RTB preferences system. When people have mostly caps in their message, instead of say "PLAYERNAME says,", it will rather say "PLAYERNAME yells,".

Normal chat with one capitalized word and a period at least would be normal chat, which would be the normal chat distance. There's already a pref to change the normal chat distance.

Some other mods don't have the talking animation when the player sends a message. So that's the main reason why I ask if someone can modify the script for my needs. And some RP chat mods overwrite player clan tags, or custom ones from the server, which is not what I want. This local chat mod doesn't overwrite clan tags though. But anyway, it would be pretty nice to see new features as the ones I listed for this old mod.

I would've asked the original owner, but he's not active in BLF as I know. Or I just don't know his alt account if he has one.

i may be able to help, and this sounds interesting enough to do. ive already did a radio mod-local chat mod integration earlier, but i think a better system is called for.

PM me/add me on steam (user: Conan Buchanan) and we can work out the details

Might as well add something like a phone for indirect texting with a specific person. Provided both people have a phone and accepted each others (fake) phone number invite. Forcing people to ask for each others number when they meet in person or leave print bricks behind.

Entirely optional of course.

Maybe even add a simple mailing system where you set up a mail box and people can click on it and leave a note.

I'll do that when I hop on Steam tommorrow, I'm also going to add more ideas while I'm at it.

That sounds great,  I think there was this phone prop mod that allowed something like that, but I'm not sure how it even works.

Sorry for souble posting, I'm on mobile.

the irony is ive actually either developed or asked someone else to develop mods all similar to that - i have a server mail mod and chat channel mod. I will need help with the phone thing, but otherwise i have actually done 90% of these ideas before...

maybe ill just develop an rp chat system mod instead; it would be less feature creep than having everything together.

I've tried a couple local chat mods, they were crap.

There is one mod where if no one is around 10ft around me whenever I type something it doesn't let me speak it just says "no one is around me to listen" I would rather figure that out for myself lol.

Well, I just need modifications from this local chat mod for my server, since the other ones that were made before were not good.

I'm fleshing out the functionality right now and i'm not sure if you're looking for a mail system where specific recipients are specified, versus a dark-souls-esque "public" messages. Could you clarify which you meant?

Also neither of you have added me to steam; you can use the forum PM system for correspondence if you prefer.

Like you have a mailbox brick or some kind of event to classify it as a mailbox.

You write a letter to their mailbox and it will display a list of users on the server with a mailbox. Maybe some kind of event that I could set up with my own post offices.

When the player checks his mailbox it will display a list of messages.

1. from Lord Tony
2. from Conan

you just type the number and read the message.

To prevent spam you should only be able to send one letter to a person until they read it.

what about players who have been on the server/just left the server?

as for the system, i think i'll make it like a city rpg bank - it'll just override your chat until you're done using it.

It would have to save their state like most mods do. Still depends if they have an actual mailbox or not. Can't send a message to someone without a mailbox.

the issue i see with this is that having/not having a mailbox may change between server load/quit, as brick ownership changes or the server changes builds or RP's or whatever. The system I'm imagining involves all users accessing the same "post office" brick, which then lets them either write or read messages for them, that are not stored in the brick but rather as server values.

i don't expect anything more complicated to be viable - although realistic/neat, it would not really see use since most players don't RP that hardcore.

Either way this will come after the local chat mod. the list of stuff planned to be done for that:
-Global chat toggle
-Identity mod support
-Who heard you bottomprint w/ identity support
-Radio mod w/ identity support
     -Names or anonymous ID
-sound alert that radio messages are being sent, if item is inventory but not equipped
-All caps to shout
-RTB Prefs to control/toggle all the stuff above.

I think it's better if we can discuss it here. I do like the ideas you are both talking about.
