Veshikk cautiously begins exploring south, towards where the land dips down.
Veshkik enters a lightly-forested area, and finds a peculiar plant the more he travels into this area.  It is increasingly prevalent the further he goes south.

Veshikk rubs a leaf and a flower petal between his index finger and thumb. He waits for several minutes, and if no adverse effects occur, he touches each of them to his tongue and once again waits.

They appear to be unharmful to touch and taste, although the flower's pollen is unpleasantly bitter.

Veshikk's favorite. He tries the seed next, using the same method. If this is successful he will eat a handful along with some of the flower's pollen.

Veshikk finds that the seed is small, smooth, and somewhat flat.  He eats the seed, and finds it to be nutty in flavor.  Nothing appears to be going wrong.

Duly noted. He takes a small handful and eats them with the pollen, taking another handful and carrying it as he explores further south.

Veshikk moves further south, and as the trees thin out, he sees a small group of large animals grazing in the distance.  It is unclear to make out their exact appearance from this distance.

He gets close enough to observe them properly, being careful to stay as hidden as possible.

poke the uvula and throw up
you know to not die
because not dying is good

now unfortunately svala ate two berries and so we don't know which one is the troublemaker
so try only one of them. for science. if you get allergic again throw up and try the other.

edit: red is bad so try blue first

Veshikk gets close enough to notice the animal.  It is a lightly-colored deer or antelope-like animal.  The tallest stands at about 1.2 meters at the shoulder.  It has curved and ridged horns.

Svala pokes her uvula and throws up her stomach contents.  It was uncomfortable with her tightened throat, but she was able to hack up the berries.  She eats the blue (Shendama) berry and realizes that it was the poisonous one.  She reacts quickly to throw up the berry, but now is having an even harder time breathing.

science is always worth it
wait a while and then eat the red ones because you still need food

Svala waits for the swelling to go down enough to swallow (about 40 minutes) and eats the Tegacha berries.  She does not appear to be poisoned.

Veshikk decides to skirt the animals and make note of their location for later. He continues exploring further south.
