Author Topic: Why do grades matter/Education argument thread  (Read 10099 times)

I didn't say that you ONLY have to go to Military school. You can go to university afterwards. Also there are certain people who take courses in university that will never help them get a job and will do nothing but piss away their parents money. At least Military School will beat some sense into them.
What you said was that it should be mandatory after you graduate, which is an absolutely terrible idea.

And why is that? What are you losing by going to Military school for a couple of years?

I just failed a test I actually studied for and I'm livid and that's why this thread exists

usually I stay up too late though
you can study for something you don't know. actually learn the stuff before studying.
You can read this sentence 5 times, but still not know what it means.

Stop being an angsty whiner and actually do your work. Maybe if you spent less time on the internet and more time in the books maybe, just maybe, you'd do better. :)))

A couple of years

That's the free-choice of the student to make. All good students will study which course they'd like to take and work availability beforehand. People who don't shouldn't have signed on to University in the first place.

Here in Australia, we have Government loans for students which you pay off when you reach a certain tax threshold. Outside of students not being able to pay the debt back, it's a much better system since it shouldn't affect you until you're in a position to pay the debt off anyway.

At least Military School will beat some sense into them.
Exactly my loving problem. It's a system designed to treat people like animals and won't actually net you any skills outside of "here's how to beat the stuff out of somebody" and "here's how to answer to authority you little bitch".

See if military school was mandatory then they wouldn't have lost the Emu War

itt: beachbum is dumb as heck thinking military school is superior to all

Do you know anyone who's ever been to military school?
Yeah, and I wouldn't describe them as having a lot of "character". They either talk about their family or the military. Absolutely incredible.

Considering I was also originally going to military school (and sign up with the Airforce Reserves) so I wouldn't have to pay for college, I think I know a fair bit about how the rodeo works.

i dont wanna get in the argument but i think you're wrong about this military school stuff

Your losing 12 years of your life by going to high school
There's a difference between educating a population and forcing them all to spend 2 years in military school

It being "character building" isn't reason enough to make it mandatory.

Your losing 12 years of your life by going to high school
okay now im going to get into the argument
are you trying to say that high-school is a waste of time
how are you in high-school for 12 years?

Primary, Secondary and High School all give you the basic foundational knowledge required to be a part of modern society. Yeah, some of the info is completely irrelevant for most people (when am I ever going to use information about Aboriginal marriage rituals?), but most of it involves learning basic English, Math and computer skills while also appreciating the important of history.

How can military school be more important than all of that? Even though I reflect negatively on High School, I still appreciate and use a lot of what I learned there.

You are educating them on how to work hard, be respectful, and how to defend themselves.

I don't know how the education system is in Australia but it's completely forgeted here in Canada. It's almost impossible to not graduate.

It's hard to talk about this kind of thing because I don't know what the standards for high school are like in Australia but in Canada it's god awful.
