Author Topic: Why do some people hate high school so much?  (Read 4030 times)

Theres a girl I know who goes to a technical school (1 week of actual academics and 1 week of shop classes) and all she does is complain about how hard school is and how much it sucks.

I loved high school. It was so easy and so fun. No real responsibility, no real worries, just have fun and hang out with friends. Sometimes I wish I was back in high school.

Why do some people hate it so much?

it depends on what school you go to i guess. some people are more worried about their grades as they are pressured more by their peers or teachers which causes a lot of stress.

My high school experience was very frustrating. Oftentimes you have little to no control over what classes you get put in, and they absolutely suck. A lot of the people are just your average run-of-the-mill handicaps that love super cliche things and love to do super cliche things. The rednecks like to hunt, fish, go mudding in their huge trucks, and chew dip/tobacco/tar and spit out the residue on the ground, which then sticks to the bottom of your shoes. The iPhone girls love to gossip, drama and text all the time on their phones, chew gum, have a snarky attitude, and start catfights. And then you have the druggies who think it's cool to smoke weed and drink alcohol underage, and fight with teachers just because they took their stupid skateboard. Oh and the coursework is the absolute worst; 90% of it is busy work and test-preparation work (they teach for the test, not teach to learn), all of which is done for arbitrary skills that often don't translate into commonly useable skills in the real world.

All in all, my high school sucked because they didn't teach much that was actually useful for me; the teachers got paid to prepare students to get A's on tests and that was it; they often didn't even know what they were talking about when they were teaching (eg. my high school world history teacher claimed that christians and muslims worship the same god, when she had absolutely no clue of the fundamental differences between them).

Oh and dont even get me started on all the bullcrap of the administration and disciplinary systems in high school.

because some kids are still angsty and make the biggest deals out of the stupidest things. they get so worked up over nothing. they actually create their own problems to be worried about. at least thats my theory

like i remember people breaking down into tears because they were gonna get a b on their tests and itd drop their grades a point. from like, a 94 to a 93. thats just too much for me

i was never like that, i literally went with my own flow and had the best time in school. id easily repeat high school exactly how it was if i could. i almost see it as my own 80s movie. it clearly wasn't in the 80s, but remembering my time in high school is like remembering my time watching the breakfast club

I'm betting that virtually all occurrences of people freaking out like that over grades is due to their own parents being super strict. I know that some of my friends in high school had really strict parents who would (metaphorically, of course) crucify them if they got anything lower than an A.

The public education system in general is just really crappy, and few people in positions of power are really bothering to do anything about it or care.

that's definitely something their parents caused. it would be unfair to say that they "created their own problems" when it's something like that

I know this will sound really edgy but most people who hated high school had terrible grades and no friends. I was in the band and let me tell you my high school experience was loving awesome, my advice to people who hate high school, join an extra-curricular activity/group such as band/chorus/a sports team.

This is dumb, but some people's parents beat their child if they get bad grades, there was a kid who lived down the street from me that got one B on his report card and his parents beat him, then he ran away.

High school loving sucks except for the legal underage pusillanimous individual and experimenting with drugs.

well i wouldnt call that a problem they created on their own. that comments more so directed to kids overthinking things that really arent big deals at all. they get so worked up over a first based assumption they had about something to the point where its actually a problem for them

that was a bad example but im just pulling from a collection silly things ive seen happen in class

I go to a technical school. I'm interned in there from 7:45 to 17:30 and I get raped in every test. Passing is harder than rocket science.

but that anxiety doesn't come from nowhere, dawg. human beings, by default, do not care about something like grades unless they're taught to. for instance, by their parents. sometimes, but more rarely, by teachers

i understand that. i wasnt saying some kids have bad anxiety over grades because they made it up. i stated in my previous post that that was a bad example and tried to correct what i meant

To me its not about social stuff or grades high school is loving chaos everyone there gave me a loving headache and the loving douches ... oh the douches... so yea high school is hell

Well it depends on the person, how they were raised, and the type of school they're in.

The way you describe high school is nothing that I'm experiencing currently, I can't just hang out with friends and relax without serious repercussions, on top of that high school is also what decides whether or not you would get in some colleges.

Also a lot of people can be huge richards and that's no fun

I just gritted through it, did work, and left the school until the next day. I didn't waste time doing anything else.
