Author Topic: Why doesn't Badspot make it open-source?  (Read 6706 times)

it being "abandonware" isn't a legal defense. they could still sue you (badspot) for it

I meant this more like it shouldn't be a problem for badspot to figure out a solution with them.

You know, very few game devs are just creating charity work for the world.
Why badspot would just end it all now and basically throw blockland away i dont know. Do you apply this logic to all games? Or do you just not give a forget about hard work unless its owned by EA or Ubisoft.

I just hope that if he did decide to make it open source that people would release content they made instead of hording it for their servers, never to be officially released beyond showing off cool screenshots.

Why would this "end" blockland? It would only get better.

Releasing the source does not necessarily mean throwing it all away for nothing.

Maybe if you people weren't so annoying and negative he'd find motivation to update the game more. Personally I'm going through the "game dev" path in education and a more open blockland rip off is my dream project. If the planets align and pigs fly, you'll hear about it several years from now.

Lol go ahead and insult us for wanting to better the game we grew up with you insolent piece of stuff

He's prob making a new Blockland.

Why would he secretly make a new blockland and not tell anyone?

I personally doubt he is working on a Blockland 2, but if he were, the hype here would be ridiculous.
And it wouldn't live up to the expectations that the hyped produced and he'd get stuff for it.

Also, people still hound-on about the hat update, or kompressors suggestion that vehicle physics would be improved.
If Badspot were to announce a new Blockland way before it's ready for release, and he showed off possible features, he'd have people trying to wipe his nose in it should he make a different design choice, or is unable to do something he had planned.

its a secret

i don't think open source is the way to go. although linux is a stable OS, its not easy to use and has way too many branches/versions due to everyone wanting their own version with their own features. open source will potentially split the development (or whats left of it) and cause more issues than it solves.

what badspot really needs to do is hire/recruit new developers. there's a number of people here who are intelligent/experienced enough to work on the game, and are probably willing to do it for less pay than a full-time or even part-time developer. it would be better if BL had slow, but visible progress by trusted community volunteers, rather than none at all.

uh
how does linux have anything to do with this
