Author Topic: [TRIGGER WARNING] how does religion exist in educated first world countries?  (Read 28981 times)

i am NOT trying to start any sort of fight or anything, i just legitimately ponder this question all the time. this is sort of my opinion and not trying to offend anyone at the same time.

wasn't religion important to humans many centuries ago because they couldn't logically explain how the world worked and why things happened? if the evolution of science and technology has happened in the last 100 years or so, why do people still believe in the things that are full of fallacies? there isn't concrete proof that god isn't real, but there isn't really proof that a god exists.

what do you guys think?

lol sure

because people's parents scare them into believing it. its why there are so few scientologists--that stuff is weird and there arent many parents.

Because if your relative is dying in the hospital, and the doctor says there is a 97% chance they'll die, you will want to turn religious in this situation

They simply cannot fathom the existence of nothingness after death.

People are just idiots
Stop
>says something that can possibly start an argument
>immediately tells somebody to stop calling people out on trying to start arguments
well meme'd mydude

i think its better if nobody fights in a thread like this

there isn't proof of a god, but there isn't really proof that a god exists.

"There isn't this, but their isn't this[the same thing] either."

?? I'm confused by this

It has to do with afterlife and a peace of mind in that security

there isn't proof of a god, but there isn't really proof that a god exists.
There's a lot of things in history that we didn't have proof for, but they still exist, right? You can't discount something just because you haven't seen it. How else would we have that scientific understanding that you're boasting about right now?

You can't knock something unless you've got definitive proof, which you sadly do not.

if people had 100% proof that their religion was right then it wouldn't matter anymore because it's not really believing because you know 100% already

"There isn't this, but their isn't this[the same thing] either."

fixed sorry

I'm sorry but I would rather think of going to a place where I will see my grandparents, my dogs, pets and my friends rather than thinking about "when you die, there is nothing! NOTHING."

understandable

Because the entire concept of faith (in most religions) determines that if you stop believing you've already lost all hope. That, and humans are naturally afraid of change.

People believe what they do not entirely because of it explaining the unknown anymore, but because it's become a cultural norm and faith reinforces this fact that they shouldn't stop believing just because science or other such logic based things go against their canon doctrine.

Just because first world countries have many logical advancements, doesn't mean everything and everyone in it will revolve around said logic.

Religion has it's place in society with such deep roots that taking it away now would basically require the entire disprovement of all dieties, ever, and even then some would attest to such logic as as a mere test from their god.

It's not going away any time soon.

I typed this on the fly so expect for it to come across as stupid.

tl;dr: humans dont like change, have too much faith to give up now

there isn't concrete proof that god isn't real, but there isn't really proof that a god exists.
So in other words, it's just like theoretical science that we use to try and describe parts of the universe that we cannot physically test. The difference being the types of logic and science they give.

You're still destroying your own point.
