This stuff ugly yo
If you can't stand looking at it, then you shouldn't even bother trying to cross it.

Today, house republicans OK'd an ACA-repeal bill that allows people who have been raped or domestically abused to be refused for healthcare because of pre-existing conditions.

Not only that, but they hastened the vote and exempted themselves from an independent review from the Congressional Budget Office (because they know that it will reveal how this bill is just as stuffty as the last one).

And what's funny is these people probably predominantly identify as Christian. I'm struggling to find the Bible verse that says, "let rape victims die from cancer in your country to win the rich people some tax breaks."

pretty disgusting stuff. call your senators if any of this bugs you even slightly.

I live in NY and we're still big on covering the Central Park 5 in school and stuff. hearing about this rollback on loveual abuse medical support makes my blood boil, especially how even Annoying Orange was very vocal against rape in the 80s

if Annoying Orange honestly cares about rape victims at all like he 'displayed' he did back in '89 he'd be vocal right now and express opposition to this new republican bullstuff

doesn't that apply to people with type 1 diabetes too? either way i can't think of any good reason why someone would defend this

It applies to lots of conditions that will basically kill you unless you have money or insurance. What's particularly egregious about this bill is that it permits insurers to reject people using rape as a pre-existing condition. In other words, if you have been raped, they can deny you coverage strictly because of that.

Again, our Christian-majority House body is currently celebrating this decision with beers at the capital.

why would someone dig a tunnel if there's no wall
but there's a fence. and as we should all know by now, there is no difference in anti-border crossing technology between the fence and the wall

he's not gonna oppose stuff, because he and every other republican that voted for this directly benefits from it
america wanted to elect a crook, that's what they got

Yes, it does. I'm glad I have great insurance already, but if I didn't, I'd probably not be able to afford the expensive medication and I'd either be really unhealthy or die.

I'm reading articles about this now, but I can't seem to find any information on being able to deny patients healthcare on the basis of being raped as a preexisting condition.

Now, the bill under consideration in the House weakens the protections for those with pre-existing conditions. States would be allowed to get a waiver from the US Department of Health and Human Services to let insurance companies set premiums based on a person's medical background under certain circumstances. If the bill becomes law in its current form, that could mean survivors could face higher insurance bills.

The NAIC Network Adequacy Model Act (PDF), revised and adopted in 2015, included a resolution passed by the professional association for state insurance regulators, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners, that prohibits "unfair discrimination by health carriers and insurance professionals on the basis of abuse status." This isn't a law like Obamacare, but it serves as guidance for states when they make insurance-related laws. Not all states, however, have adopted this policy.

once again i feel like modern mainstream republicans literally only want the worst possible outcome for everybody. at the very least PRETEND to care like the democrats do. put a cute little "coexist" sticker on your death warrants next time.
