why

because like most nations, assimilation is required.
so should it be.

Better question: do you think you've worked enough to pay off the $78-240k taxpayers have spent to put your ass through twelve years of public schooling?

Went to private school my whole life, try again

In that case, you're no economic burden, but it's strictly because your wealthy parents have provided everything for you in life. This doesn't change the fact that these same standards, applied to normal, working-class Americans, paint them as a 'drain on the economy' when that's obviously not true.

"forget you, got mine" mentality rears it's ugly head once again

also very nice to look at people as numbers and not as, y'know, people

i dont want to waste my tax dollars schooling useless illegals that wont even do our nation any good next gen. they exist for illegal votes. and thank god that stuff is coming to an end. even the dems wont want mexicans here if they cant get a vote from em.

isolationism hasn't ever made a great society in comparison to diplomacy. when japan was isolationist for those hundreds of years entropy slowly increased to the point where it broke up when truly introduced to the world around it. also they were completely behind on many technologies and cultures
i don't get why people think immigration done the proper way is a problem at all, especially considering that them just being here and having them make a life out of themselves absolutely benefits the economy. of course there are some undesirables who would just be a problem, but that's why they get filtered out (as they already are)
the immigration process is painfully long and rough as is--and that's currently forgetin working lol

We're talking about legal immigrants

Well it's a good thing we aren't applying these same standards to working-class Americans, then? I have no idea why you guys insist on bringing established citizens into the discussion about criteria for immigrants it's so loving braindead

Yeah so sorry my family works to make sure I get an education so I can do the same for my family a decade from now whoops

Feels before reals I guess!

the reality is that you'd rather people die than give them a sliver of the pie

Willing to bet that the people who immigrate under this new plan probably aren't interested in taking the jobs that hardworking American citizens rely on to support their families. Remember, supporting American citizens when instead you could be giving free stuff to random immigrants that may or may not hate American culture, is tribal. Vote liberal today if you're not a filthy tribal, remember to donate too.

And none of this has been jeopardized thus far by our previous models of legal immigration. Funny how that works.

because the act here says that, in principle, if you don't meet these criteria, you aren't worthy of being an american. we all understand that the law only applies to immigrants, but the principle it's based on is confusing

the reality is that you'd rather people die than give them a sliver of the pie

People will die if we don't let them immigrate to the US? Are you...

You guys are loving idiots I'm going to sleep

Yeah so sorry my family works to make sure I get an education so I can do the same for my family a decade from now whoops
almost every family works to make sure their children get an education. that's the main reason why people immigrate to the united states. the only difference is that your parents have better jobs and probably got some equity money on their houses
