It's not about people having a right to live in the United States. It's about the fact that we shouldn't have the right to deny people based on our perceived notions of a lack of potential.
Why not? You're proposing that we import people that may or may not actually become productive, upstanding members of society instead of setting the bar higher to ensure they are productive as quickly as possible. We don't need more unskilled, uneducated labor.

cappy we're already filtering for productive members of society
productive as in not useless

but we should help people who are in need, regardless of whether they're economically "productive"

the idea that people have to be 'worth' something (i.e. a dollar value) to exist in our society is an idea that i'm not really able to get behind

but we should help people who are in need, regardless of whether they're economically "productive"
There's no reason besides to feel good. stuff sucks in the world, it isn't our fault nor is it the responsibility of the country to fix it.

It's unfortunate that people are in stuffty situations but we should focus on our own homelessness problem before worrying about things outside our own borders.

it feels good because it's morally the right thing to do...? sorry if you don't like being human but most people wouldn't let a man die in front of them, regardless of politics

The worth of human life is a lot higher than the few bucks we'd save keeping them out.

Nonnel could you virtue signal any harder?

The purpose of allowing immigrants into the country isn't to "save" them from a worse life. 790 million people in the world don't have access to clean drinking water. Does this qualify them to enter the country?

You're missing the entire point. We can afford to import x amount of immigrants per year. Why do we not take in the best of the  group with the highest qualifications/potential? Being able to speak English is also a positive trait as they can join the workforce immediately upon arrival.

those who are a drain on the economy should be deported - native citizen or not.

is this actually the case? i wasn't under the impression that there was any budgetary reason for quotas, but it'd make more sense that we have them if there were

you right. forget em. if they ain't american they ain't matter, right dumbass?

increased human capital = better economy, right? how can we not afford to take in more?

i mean, if they manage to get their way here, absolutely
if someone isn't harmful to society then introducing them into it can only benefit
anyways i don't get why you think that we don't already have this happening without the extra unnecessary and unfair constraints that RAISE adds

actually i can agree in principle with maybe prioritizing/helping people who are more so guaranteed to find success here, i just don't see why we gotta make it an exclusive club to those people. we already do that tho. if you impose stricter restrictions for everyone, i imagine the reality is that you're probably just going to get more people who come illegally instead. i think we need to simplify immigration and make it easier for people to come here and find opportunities to succeed, not harder
