Allowing Iran to convert its Omani rials into 5.7 billion dollars so it can be converted into another currency is not exactly a crime or something heinous.

So the GOP report actually notes that the transaction was legal and falls under the purview of the president's executive power, so I imagine the controversy here is that Obama did Iran (sworn permanent enemy of the US) a favor by allowing them to convert $5.7b in Rial into USD and then Euros.

Here's what I don't get though: half of you who are so upset about this are the same people who wanted to preemptively nuke the DPRK to prevent them from developing nukes. Obama did what equates to a handful of financial favors for Iran in order to get them to agree to a deal that crippled their nuclear capabilities for decades. With extremely less destructive and expensive means, he accomplished basically the same thing we've been trying to do with North Korea all this year.

I don't think that the goal of international relations is just to stuff on 'the enemy' until the end of time. Iran's economy has been screwed up for decades because of Western sanctions, and the economic pressure finally forced their leadership to agree to a deal that amounts to a win-win for both parties. Iran doesn't want to be broke til the end of time, and the Western world doesn't want proliferation of nuclear arms.

Yes, Iran is a state-sponsor of terrorism and members of their government regularly burn flags and chant 'Death to America', but that can be constructively changed if the West keeps the deal up and Iran begins to participate in the global economy. Poverty and economic instability breed extremism, and it's likely that if the rest of the EU stay in the deal and Iran doesn't pull out, we'll see drastic changes in their society over the next 20 years as the country becomes more stable and wealthy - with assurance that they aren't going to develop nuclear arms.

Because Iran isn't an expansionary, imperialistic power with dreams of conquering the whole world? The modus operandi of the national socialist philosophy was to own all of Europe, so obviously sanctions weren't going to work.

Also, in modern times, we would still resist Iran militarily if they decided to start illegally expanding their sovereignty into that of our allies.

Not really. Barring Annoying Orange's bullstuff, I completely agree with how the US has handled Russia. We've placed sanctions on them for a wide range of bullstuff, including the annexation of Crimea and their interference in the election. No bombings or invasions necessary.

If they decide to cede Crimea back to the Ukrainian government and commit to cracking down on interference in foreign elections, I would have no problem with the US releasing the sanctions. It's only Annoying Orange who wants to release the sanctions without asking for anything in return from the Russians. Wonder why that could be.
