Who do you save?

The trolley
The worker
My name is not important

Author Topic: The Trolley Dilemma  (Read 7695 times)

this is a moral dilemma not a legal dilemma
It affects my choice. If no matter my choice, nothing bad happens to the lever puller, who in there right mind wouldn't switch it?

and besides,
do you really care about your own ass more than a trolley full of people
Yes, especially if you're in the trolley.

Yes, especially if you're in the trolley.

well that's pretty selfish of you imo but it's a moral dilemma for a reason I suppose

i accidentally voted for the worker but i'd pull the lever

Why did you add that silly third option? Everyone is just going to vote for that to be funny.

Says who we wouldn't let the train go and then go kill the other guy for fun? I would.

Anyway y'all are assuming that the combined lives of everybody in the train are worth more than the one man.

I wouldn't kill him because then I'd be directly responsible for his death. But if I let the trolley go, then I could wash my hands clean of the affair knowing that I didn't contribute to their deaths, and didn't contribute to the worker's death. My own conscience is more important to me than a bunch of people.

I'd chose 10 people die and i don't go to jail over 1 person dies and I go to jail.

"You're hereby sentenced to life for diverting a trolley out of harms way, by switching it to an alternate track, but you killed one man."

Makes sense to me.

How do I know the lever isn't rigged to kill everyone or if it even does anything at all?

How far is the worker from you? Can you not pull the lever and then run and tackle the guy off the tracks?

Also how fast is this train going? Can it even switch tracks without it derailing and killing everyone?

More like "You switched a trolley into a worked and killed him."

Sorry to say, and I know you're itching to fly into a jail cell, but that's not how a jury system works.

Spot the sociopath.

Just because you didn't directly cause their deaths doesn't really mean you aren't responsible for their deaths.
