eh. i don't compare patriotism to school spirit because while they're the same thing by definition, school spirit is much more individualistic and influenced by who you're friends with
im happy to go to football games and cheer for my team but i won't like it when all the stem, fine arts, and faculty programs get completely skullforgeted by sports
on a slightly related note id love to figure out how to help organize hoco next year because it was completely mundane this time. nearly everything that looked nice was from ten years ago (although there was one kickass ferris wheel) and it got boring real fast. i just had to make my own fun out of it and the staff didn't appreciate me throwing balloons into the crowd, and acting like the shady glowstick dealer (which was objectively hilarious) so i just ended up sitting on a bench for an hour falling asleep
