A manned mars mission wouldn't yield jack stuff for the human race. At least the olympics provide entertainment
like, we get it, you're handicapped

It'd be better if the Olympics rotated between like five countries or something. There's no point in building these ginormous stadiums, only for them to be abandoned or seldom used after the Olympics end.
A majority of the stadiums being used in Olympic games were already built.

Keep telling yourself that when you believe us humans will only be on the planet Earth for the rest of our existence.

A successful colonization of mars means more potential resources, less population stress on earth and we may be able to colonize more planets.

Plus we get a plan B planet in case earth dies.

What the forget is the olympics going to do when everyone on earth is dead?

It would do something, it shows that us humans are going beyond planet Earth, and one day we can leave our solar system. Going to Mars is a huge step for the human race, the Olympics aren't getting us anywhere. In fact, the Olympics are halting us, we're wasting billions of dollars just to have random people play sports. Those billions of dollars could instead go to NASA so we can actually advance as an intelligent speices.
Though people like Path aren't very intelligent

Obviously studying the universe to understand our inevitable demise is more important than a couple people playing games

were you also pretending to be handicapped

were you also pretending to be handicapped
not really

I live near Lake Placid, which is where the 1980 winter olympics were held.  They still use most of the venues for recreational activities and minor league hockey events.

Seen any monster crocs by any chance?

On a serious note, I can see where Tony is coming from, and I agree with his sentiment that we need to invest in space travel.
With regards to the Olympics, it is to athletes what the Nobel Prizes are to scientists. It gives athletes something to look forward to and strive for.  There is a craving for athletic competition within our genetic code, as exemplified by the masses who watch sports but don't play them. Sports will always have a place in our civilization, even if it can be construed as wasteful.

manned mars missions will just open portals to hell, not save the human race from extinction

High cost and waste of resources is not worth the entertainment.
You keep saying this, but you're not addressing things like
Plus, the Olympics brought in far more money to the UK than it cost us.

I don't know the stats for the London Olympics, but the 2016 Olympics says they're selling 7.5 million tickets.
That's 7.5 million tourists pumping tourism money into your economy: hotels to stay at, food to buy, souvenirs,  etc.

Even during the summer, people are practicing the ski jumps but with water instead. I worked about an hour away from lake placid last summer and saw them. pretty cool.

What about after? Some countries actually become in debt because of the Olympics.
