Author Topic: Next year the Shaders Update will be 5 years old  (Read 4683 times)

I still remember that day as If it were yesterday. It was awful, I couldn't even run shaders at the time due to my crappy PC. I was so dad I nearly quit the game.

this game rapidly died off for me after shaders came out, i'm trying to get back into it though

Shaders stopped working for me. Pretty sure it was when I updated my graphics driver.

the year the game just plummeted

build wise slate was by far the best place to build; maps really never went well with bricks. that being said they had a charm of their own and exploration of big maps by respected users was fun in its own aspect. mike's house, GTA maps by GSF, under construction, autumn pond, that desert highway map: i remember having fun just jetting around the map and looking for secrets

that being said, i am fine with them being gone; its just a shame that we lost that part of blockland's feel.

Yeah, back in I think v8/v9 I only had the demo. Since I couldn't use more than 150 bricks I used GSF's maps as a subsitute, along with SpaceGuy's bots. Wasn't until v11 or v12 that I finally bough the game on my old account. Whatever.

Still, before the Shadows and Shaders update the only map I would use was Slate or Skylands since they were the best for building. All the people that complain about the game "plummeting" or becoming awful without maps and terrains are definitely not playing Blockland for its main function. Building.

Maps and terrains did nothing for builds. If you can't handle playing the game without them, something is severely wrong with you.

I still think it was a great update because it forced players to get good at building terrain and got rid of hundreds of whiny turds.

But it's not just about building.
Yeah, no stuff. It's a sandbox game. That's why I said its main function is building. Everything else revolves around people building stuff. Boss Battles, CityRPGs, TDMs, Slayer games, Left 4 Block or ZAPT etc.

99% of the time all interiors and terrains did were provide "pretty" physical backgrounds for everything.

Everyone here loves to loving insist that they were the greatest thing ever, but refuse to explain why they were so loving important and special other than something for you to pretend to be nostalgic over and prance around saying "I remember when terrains and interiors were a thing!" I've seen handicaps pull up the classic "Shaders = Graphics; Gameplay > Graphics" argument.

So please, I'd love to hear what sort of innovative things you people were doing with interiors and terrains, because obviously you guys were cut short just before revealing your game-changing ideas for interiors and terrains, and never got to tell people about them - because the same servers and gamemodes that people would host before the shader update are still around.

My problem is that i've still yet to see anything awesome or game changing aside from the shadows and shaders that would have warranted the removal of terrains and interiors

The shadows don't even work with Intel GPUs, right? Is that just Intel in general, even if they're newer/more powerful, or is it just old potato quality GPUs? So those people who are too poor to upgrade got shafted by that, and various other people got shadows that were too much for their GPU to handle, thus restricting them to the lower/disabled settings where you just end up with blobs

I want the cool stuff that we were told terrains and interiors were removed to make way for

And i'd still like for the new Steam players to not feel like they wasted a few bucks on a dead/terrible game (dead/terrible from their perspective, of course) :(

maps were neat for aesthetics and building around them
it was pretty cool that you could actually be a mini lego guy in a bedroom or kitchen
plus they in a way could help someone new starting off in there have boundries instead of just daunting endless nothing if that's their kinda thing

I'm fine without them and over time I've learn to love how the new shadows look but it's what helped draw me in to this game in the first place since that concept was so cool to me, and I feel like it's possible that we could've drawn more people in if we still had them

Not necessarily.
I have an Intel GPU,  and can take 4 scale megashots with 10500 shader map size on ultra shaders.
