I think YouTube's trying too hard to be a "social network" like Facebook or Twitter.

I don't think they're trying hard enough. There's no correlation between the comments and the videos (aka the bulk of the content). The comments are neigh useless in their current form and the only way to get meaningful discussion about who you're subscribed to or whatever the newest topic of the week is or who's fighting with who is through third party means. This is partly due to how vast it is, but also how horrible Google is at community management.

To simply put it, the youtube community's design is garbage and their hamfisting of google+ really killed any chance of getting something okay

You can already get videos taken down by having 3-4 people flagging one video at the same loving time.

Youtube heroes just make it easier as it only takes 1 person.
