Author Topic: apparently i'm a "know it all" in people's eyes when i correct them on something  (Read 17141 times)

for example, one day my mom wanted me to dress up in oodles of layers because it was 12 degrees out (not that cold to me honestly). i said no and then she gave me the argument that "you'll get a cold/pnemonia if you go out there without multiple layers on". i told her that's not true and explain they're caused by viruses. then the whole "mother knows all" charade and she angrily storms off.

there are multiple examples of this happening

am i seriously a bad person for correcting people? this isn't exclusively with my mom either.

hypothermia weakens your immune system and makes you more susceptible to the viruses that cause the common cold

yeah you can absolutely get hypothermia

your mom is right put on extra clothes lol

12 degrees is not cold to you? thats literally below freezing.

if it doesn't necessarily add anything to the conversation, then it's weird, and it can come across as you trying to make someone feel stupid depending on the tone, or it could just make someone feel stupid regardless

in the example you gave, the only problem i can see is if you gave an excessive amount of detail, which might be a bit out of place

His tone probably had a lot to do with it, but I'm sure we all know how good his social skills are anyway.

-11C is kind of cold though

OP is the kind of person who says "11 degrees isn't that cold" when you ask them if they're gonna grab a jacket and then an hour later they're complaining about how cold they are

Not really it's -49 here
dude that's too cold for me, I can only stand temps of 130C or more

another case of 'knowledgable and caring parent gets disrespected by much younger potentially caucasian child who thinks they are smarter'

if your moms tells you to wear a damn sweater, then wear a damn sweater. you can thank her later when you aren't missing school or work because your ass stayed warm in anti-hypothermia clothing

u gon melt

potentially caucasian

sorry but like, if your tv gets stolen the suspect is black. if a child is acting like a brat and thinks theyre better than their parents, they're white. it's how the universe works, dont hate me hate god for making things that way

of course it's not always 100% true but 95% is a safer estimate.

But it was completely pointless and didn't help backup your post at all.
